Thought For The Day: Why Does Krishna Play the Flute?

London, England

Srila Prabhupada presents in the Krishna Book a gopi's description of why Krishna plays the flute and one of the many results of this:

"Beautiful Krishna plays His flute in order to enliven the hearts of many devotees. He is the only friend of the suffering living entities. When He plays His flute, all the cows and other animals of Vrindavana, although engaged in eating, simply take a morsel of food in their mouths and stop chewing. Their ears raise up and they become stunned. They do not appear alive but like painted animals. Krishna's flute-playing is so attractive that even the animals become enchanted, and what to speak of ourselves."

He mentions another gopi's talking to mother Yasoda as follows:

"My dear mother, your son is very expert among the cowherd boys. He knows all the different arts of how to tend the cows and how to play the flute. He composes His own songs, and to play them He puts His flute to His mouth. When He plays, either in the morning or in the evening, all the demigods, including Lord Siva, Brahma, Indra and Candra, bow their heads and listen with great attention. Although they are very learned and expert, they cannot understand the musical arrangements of Krisnha's flute. They simply listen attentively and try to understand, but they become bewildered and nothing more."

How can I become immortal? Please tell me.

Iwuoha Leonard

Answer: Chant Hare Krishna and Follow Guru

From: London, England

My Dear Iwuoha,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

You are already immortal. You simply have to revive your original immortal consciousness by chanting the Hare Krishna mahamantra as much as possible every day and by following the instructions of the bona fide spiritual master.

The Hare Krishna mahamantra goes like this:

Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in an ecstatic mood.

Thought For The Day: Lord Caitanya's World Deliverance Mission

ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

The world, now more than ever, is in desperate need of being awakened to Krishna consciousness as soon as possible because there is truly no other solution for the ocean of difficulties which is presently drowning the human society. It is for this purpose that we have fully dedicated ourselves to Lord Caitanya's world deliverance mission, which is the mission of all the Vaisnava acaryas, even though we are just tiny, insignificant souls struggling to awaken our own Krishna consciousness.

Question: When Will My Marriage Happen?

Dear Sir,

I am totally confused about my marriage with below queries:

1. When it will happen?
2. How long should I wait?
3. Whether or not I should believe in horoscope matching? What will happen If I don't believe in horoscope matching?

Ajithbabu Nair

Answer: Not the Most Important Question

From: ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

My Dear Ajith,

Please accept my blessings.

"When will I get married?” is not the most important question to ask. The most important question is to ask how you can awaken pure love of God within your heart, because when you have pure love of God all other issues will easily or automatically resolved.

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in an ecstatic mood.

Thought For The Day: The Astounding Mercy of Prahlada Maharaja

ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

Srila Prabhupada writes as follows:

"You have asked if it is true that the spiritual master remains in the material universe until all of his disciples are transferred to the spiritual sky. The answer is yes, this is the rule. Therefore, every student should be very much careful not to commit any offense which will be detrimental to this promotion to the spiritual kingdom, and thereby the spiritual master has to incarnate again to deliver him." (From a letter to Jayapataka - Los Angeles 11 July, 1969)

This is the amazing mercy of the spiritual master. But Prahlada Maharaja is even more merciful as described here by Srila Prabhupada in his purport to Srimad Bhagavatam, Fourth Canto, Chapter 17, Verse 26:

"As far as the field of spiritual activities is concerned, when a devotee is self-satisfied and does not preach the glories of Krishna, he is not considered a first-class devotee. A devotee who tries to preach, who has compassion upon innocent persons who have no knowledge of Krishna, is a superior devotee. In his prayer to the Lord, Prahlada Maharaja said that he was not personally interested in liberation from this material world; rather, he did not wish to be liberated from this material condition until all fallen souls were delivered."

Augustine Emmanuel

Answer: According to Your Past Karma

From: ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

My Dear Augustine,

Please accept my blessings.

Thought For The Day: So Much Better Than Sex

ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

Srila Prabhupada writes as follows in his purport to Bhagavad-gita, Chapter 5, Text 21:

“Sri Yamunacarya, a great devotee in Krishna consciousness, said:

yad-avadhi mama cetah krsna-padaravinde
nava-nava-rasa-dhamany udyatam rantum asit
tad-avadhi bata nari-sangame smaryamane
bhavati mukha-vikarah susthu nisthivanam ca

'Since I have been engaged in the transcendental loving service of Krishna, realizing ever-new pleasure in Him, whenever I think of sex pleasure I spit at the thought, and my lips curl with distaste.' A person in brahma-yoga, or Krishna consciousness, is so absorbed in the loving service of the Lord that he loses his taste for material sense pleasure altogether. The highest pleasure in terms of matter is sex pleasure. The whole world is moving under its spell, and a materialist cannot work at all without this motivation. But a person engaged in Krishna consciousness can work with greater vigor without sex pleasure, which he avoids. That is the test in spiritual realization. Spiritual realization and sex pleasure go ill together. A Krishna conscious person is not attracted to any kind of sense pleasure, due to his being a liberated soul. "

If we endeavor sincerely in Krishna consciousness, we can indeed attain this exalted state of pure Krishna bhakti. Therefore, if we have any intelligence at all, this is what we will endeavor to do.

Question: Is Accidentally Killing Insects Sinful?

When we are walking or riding a bike small ants and other creatures will be crushed by our foot or bicycle tire. So, unknowingly creatures are killed when we are walking or riding. I feel very sad. I try my best to avoid, but unfortunately sometimes they will die. By this am I doing sin? Please give me light.

Mahendra

Answer: Yes, For Non-Devotees

From: ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

My Dear Mahendra,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Just as an ambulance driver while on an emergency can run a red light without getting a ticket from the police, a devotee who is fully engaged in the service of the Lord does not suffer any sinful reactions for accidentally stepping on an ant or such accidental killings.

However, a person engaged in material sense gratification will have to take birth as an ant and be stepped on for every single ant that he has ever stepped on.

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in an ecstatic mood.

Thought For The Day: Our Mission: Make the Whole World Happy

ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

Srila Prabhupada told us in Los Angeles on 2 December 1968: "This is the only solution: to push on Krishna consciousness movement, love of Godhead. Everyone will be happy, the human society. Visvam purnam sukhayate. Whole universe will be just like Vaikuntha. Vaikuntha means without anxieties."

And then he told us in Miami on 25 February 1975: "So this is our Krishna consciousness movement, to distribute perfect knowledge, Krishna consciousness, and that will make the whole world happy. So try to distribute this knowledge to your best capacity. Krishna will recognize you, that you are trying your best to work on His behalf because He comes down to distribute the knowledge."

The same point he made in Mayapura on 1 April 1975: "If you can propagate Krishna consciousness constantly, then, by spreading this Krishna consciousness movement, you can make the whole world Krishna conscious, and then it will be Vaikuntha."

And then he reconfirmed this on 25 February 1977 in Mayapura: "You can make the whole world happy. This instruction of Krishna in the Bhagavad-gita, so perfect... It must be perfect because it is coming from Krishna. It is not the so-called scientist theory. No. Perfect instruction. And if we follow the instruction, if we practically utilize, then whole world... Visvam purnam sukhayate."

Therefore, those who are strictly following Srila Prabhupada accept his mandate to make the whole world happy. Their lives are fully dedicated to this purpose.

Question: Hearing Classes or Reading?

Guru Maharaja,

Kindly accept my humble obeisances at your lotus feet.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada. All glories to Gurumataji. And all glories to your worldwide preaching!!!

As time is our most precious resource, how should we manage it? After finishing our daily routine of 16 rounds of japa chanting if one gets more time, should one give more importance to hearing or reading? In other words, is systematic study of scriptures more important than hearing some class? How to prioritize?

Many thanks for your valuable time.

Kindly pardon my ignorance and offences.

Aspiring to be servant of your servant ,
Gopal Shinde

Answer: Attend Classes and Read All the Books

From: ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

My Dear Gopal,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Hearing classes based on Srila Prabhupada's books and reading his books on your own are both very, very important because Srila Prabhupada said that we must attend classes and read all of his books. So after you complete your 16 rounds of daily japa you should as much as possible do both. In other words, attend classes as much as possible as well as gradually, systematically read all of Srila Prabhupada's books.

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in an ecstatic mood.

Thought For The Day: Submissive Inquiry Kills All Doubts

ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

There is no reason to ever be doubtful or confused while engaged in the ultimate self-realization system, Krishna consciousness. All you have to do when you need some guidance is inquire from the spiritual master, and he will explain things to you in a such a way as to make things clear. This is why Krishna orders us in the Bhagavad-gita 4.34 as follows:

tad viddhi pranipatena
pariprasnena sevaya
upadeksyanti te jñanam
jñaninas tattva-darsinah

"Just try to learn the truth by approaching a spiritual master. Inquire from him submissively and render service unto him. The self-realized souls can impart knowledge unto you because they have seen the truth."

If you are still confused after inquiring, inquire again. And if even then you are still confused, inquire again. In this way continue inquiring until all of your doubts are completely eradicated and you are absolutely sure that Krishna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead and that you are His eternal servant.

Close to 800,000 people die due to suicide every year, which is an average of one person every 40 seconds. This is how frustrated people are without Krishna consciousness. Therefore we must make the whole world Krishna conscious as soon as possible to save the people from their misery.

Thought For The Day: Do Not Cheat Yourself

ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

Why cheat yourself? Your actual position is that you are eternal, full of knowledge, and full of bliss. So don't cheat yourself out of who you actually are, relegating yourself to be repeatedly dragged through birth, death, old age, and disease. That would be insane. So don't be insane. Come back now to your original pure state of Krishna consciousness and relish ever-increasing bliss at every moment for all of eternity. Are you with me on this point? I certainly hope so!

Thought For The Day: Gopis' Feeling of Separation

ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

In the Krishna Book, Chapter 35 Srila Prabhupada wonderfully describes the gopis' feeling of separation from Krishna:

"The gopis of Vrindavana were so attached to Krishna that they were not satisfied simply with the rasa dance at night. They wanted to associate with Him and enjoy His company during the daytime also. When Krishna went to the forest with His cowherd boyfriends and cows, the gopis did not physically take part, but their hearts went with Him. And because their hearts went, they were able to enjoy His company through strong feelings of separation. To acquire this strong feeling of separation is the teaching of Lord Caitanya and His direct disciplic succession of Gosvamis. When we are not in physical contact with Krishna, we can associate with Him like the gopis, through feelings of separation. Krishna's transcendental form, qualities, pastimes and entourage are all identical with Him. There are nine different kinds of devotional service. Devotional service to Krishna in feelings of separation elevates the devotee to the highest perfectional level, to the level of the gopis.

"It is stated in Srinivasacarya's prayer to the six Gosvamis that they left the material opulences of government service and the princely status of life and went to Vrindavana, where they lived just like ordinary mendicants, begging from door to door. But they were so much enriched with the gopis' feelings of separation that they enjoyed transcendental pleasure at every moment. Similarly, when Lord Caitanya was at Jagannatha Puri, He was in the role of Radharani, feeling separation from Krishna. Those who are in the disciplic succession of the Madhva-Gaudiya-sampradaya should always feel separation from Krishna, worship His transcendental form and discuss His transcendental teachings, His pastimes, His qualities and His entourage. That will enrich the devotees to the highest devotional perfection. Feeling constant separation while engaged in the service of the Lord is the perfection of Krishna consciousness."

So let us try to develop the feeling of missing Krishna being separated from Him. This lamentation of missing Him will put us in the highest ecstasy of Krishna consciousness. It is interesting to note in this connection that George Harrison's number one hit song "My Sweet Lord" is written in the mood of being separated from Krishna and hankering to be with Him.

Thought For The Day: The Most Amazing Enchanting Power of Krishna's Flute Playing

ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

When Krishna plays His flute everyone is enchanted. There is no musician in this world who can compete with Him. Beautiful Krishna plays His flute in order to enliven the hearts of many devotees. He is the only friend of the suffering living entities. When He plays His flute, all the cows and other animals of Vrindavana, although engaged in eating, simply take a morsel of food in their mouths and stop chewing. Their ears raise up and they become stunned. They do not appear alive but like painted animals. Krishna's flute-playing is so attractive that even the animals become enchanted. When He plays on His flute and calls the cows with Balarama, the River Yamuna stops flowing and waits for the air to carry dust from His lotus feet.

When Krishna walks on the bank of the Yamuna, He is seen nicely decorated with tilaka on His face. He is garlanded with different kinds of forest flowers, and His body is smeared with the pulp of sandalwood and tulasi leaves. The bumblebees become mad after the fragrance and sweetness of the atmosphere. Being pleased by the humming sound of the bees, Krishna plays His flute, and together the sounds become so sweet to hear that aquatic birds like cranes, swans and ducks are charmed. Instead of swimming or flying, they become stunned. They close their eyes and enter into a trance of meditation in worship of Krishna.

Krishna and Balarama are nicely dressed with earrings and pearl necklaces. They enjoy Themselves on the top of Govardhana Hill, and everything becomes absorbed in transcendental pleasure when Krishna plays on His flute, charming the whole created manifestation. When He plays, the clouds stop their loud thundering out of fear of Him. Rather than disturb the vibration of His flute, they respond with mild thunder and so congratulate Krishna, their friend.

When Krishna travels through the Vrindavana forest or walks on Govardhana Hill, He is accompanied by the cowherd boys. While walking, He plays His flute just to call His cows. Just by His association, the trees, plants and other vegetation in the forest immediately become Krishna conscious. A Krishna conscious person sacrifices everything for Krishna. Although the trees and plants are not very advanced in consciousness, by the association of Krishna and His friends they also become Krishna conscious.

Answers According to Vedic Wisdom

Question: Why Does Hatred Exist?

Why does hatred exist? Why does a gentle person have to always suffer? Recently I had major surgery, and now I am very much in anxiety. Please tell me how should I pray to Krishna to make my life normal again. How should I increase my faith in Krishna when I am going through difficult situations?

How can I be convinced that Krishna is hearing me and that He is always with me?

Poonam Tomar

Answer: Because of Ignorance

From: ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

My Dear Poonam,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Hatred is due to ignorance. Nobody ever became happy by hating someone. Those who are intelligent cultivate loving feelings for all living beings seeing them all as Krishna's parts and parcels.

Suffering is also due to ignorance. Those who have revived their lost loving relationship with Lord Krishna experience bliss at every minute.

To become peaceful always pray to Krishna that you can be His pure devotee by fully surrendering to Him.

Always see that the difficult situations are Krishna's special blessings upon you to help you fully surrender unto Him for His all-merciful protection.

By fully giving your love to Krishna you will always feel that He is present, that He always hears you, and that He knows everything that you are feeling and experiencing.

Thought For The Day: If You're Feeling Suicidal

ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

If you're feeling suicidal, you just can't stand to live.
Everything is hopeless, you're fully inoperative.
Meet the Supreme Person who loves you unlimitedly.
Give your love to Him, and He will set you free.

“But there is no God,” the atheists say.
"His existence just a myth.
Everything comes from nothing," they claim.
Life's a hopeless abyss.

But nothing comes nothing
I scientifically declare.
So just find the original something
And you'll no longer be ensnared.

That original source is a loving person
So gentle and sublime.
He's inviting you back to your original home
To re-enter His eternal pastimes.

So if you're ever suicidal
Just remember this.
Your actual cognizant being
Is eternal overflowing with bliss.

God's devotee with take you there
Back to your original home.
You will no longer suffer here
In birth and death cycle to roam.

Answers According to Vedic Wisdom

Question: How the Soul Can Be Equal to the Supreme and at Same Time Only Part of the Supreme?

Dear Gurudeva please accept my pranams. Hare Krishna.

I have a question regarding Bhagavad-gita, Chapter 15, Verse 7 where Krishna says "Mamaivamso jiva loke jiva bhuta sanatana." For this verse Srila Prabhupada writes in his purport that the living entity is a fragmental part and parcel of the Supreme Lord. But in Vedas it is said "purnam adah purnam idam purnat purnam udhacyate," that the individual part of the Supreme is equal with the Supreme. So he is purna (complete). But if the living entities are His fragmented parts, then should they not be complete like the Supreme? But living entities are not at all equal with the Supreme. So how can I understand this statement that living entities are fragmental parts and parcels of the Supreme?

Thank you for your transcendental messages. Hare Krishna.

Kowshub Srihari

Answer: Simultaneously One and Different

From: ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

My Dear Kowshub,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

The Supreme Lord and the living beings are qualitatively one because both the Supreme Lord and the living beings are eternal, full of knowledge, and full of bliss. However since the Supreme Lord is infinite and the living beings are infinitesimal, they are quantitatively different. This is the sublime philosophy known as acintya-bhedabheda-tattva, which means simultaneously, inconceivably one and different.

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in an ecstatic mood.

Thought For The Day: Ten People Shot Dead at Santa Fe High School

ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

The school shooting violence has gotten so bad in the United States that now there is an average of one school shooting every week in the US. For example, on Friday 18 May 2018 ten people were shot dead by a disgruntled student at Santa Fe High School in Santa Fe, Texas. Our leaders all over the world, in spite of making a big show of being competent, are factually unqualified to lead their people on the progressive path to true peace, happiness, and prosperity. Their idea of how to stop violence is to beef up the security. They do not realize that beef is the real problem. Because they are sending their mothers, the cows, to the slaughterhouses now their schools are become slaughterhouses in which their own sons and daughters are being killed.

When, oh when will that day come when people will agree to hear from the Supreme Authority, Lord Sri Krishna, and make their lives perfect? May that day come soon! May that day come very soon!

Complaint: Your Emails Are Fake and Are Making People Fools

Your mails are irrelevant for me. All you say is that we should leave everything and chant Hare Krishna 24 hours a day. We have only one life and it is meant for doing so many things: education, success, family, etc. Worship of the Lord is important and is a part of life. But I don't believe that Krishna asked everyone to leave everything and become a sadhu. So your mails are fake and making people fools. You are enjoying, going places by air, living a comfortable life, but teaching others to sacrifice everything so that you can enjoy their donations.

Shilpi M.

Answer: Our Teachings Are Genuine and Are Enlightening People All Over the World

From: ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

My Dear Shilpi,

Please accept my greetings.

I am sorry that are you finding my writing to be irrelevant. Kindly note that I am not presenting my own philosophy. I am simply presenting the teachings of the Vedic wisdom coming from Lord Sri Krishna, God Himself that have perfectly guided the human society for thousands and millions of years. This wisdom has the power to bring perfect peace and happiness to everyone. Unfortunately because persons such as yourself, which is practically the entire present human population, cannot understand its significance the entire world civilization remains in a very chaotic situation in which horrific violence is being inflicted on innocent animals and children every day.

Your idea that we have only one life is incorrect. Lord Sri Krishna confirms in the Bhagavad-gita 4.5:

bahuni me vyatitani
janmani tava carjuna
tany aham veda sarvani
na tvam vettha parantapa

"Many, many births both you and I have passed. I can remember all of them, but you cannot, O subduer of the enemy!"

I never teach that everyone should abandon their material duties and become sadhus. Rather we teach everyone how to become perfect in their duties by doing them as an offering of love to God. There are four orders of the human society. Those in the renounced order act as teachers and guide the people in general. But it is not that everyone in the society is a teacher. Are you proposing that we should rid the human society of all teachers?

Thousands of people all over the world are finding great strength and happiness in what I am writing. This is not because it is my writing. Rather it is because I am purely presenting the teachings that are presented by Lord Sri Krishna in the Bhagavad-gita without any deviation, addition, or subtraction.

My travel is not for sense enjoyment. In fact, it is actually hard work traveling so many places around the world in a 70 years old body for teaching the science of bhakti to bring peace, joy, and happiness to people all over the world. There is no question of enjoying somebody’s donation. Whatever loving service is offered by those who appreciate our mission is engaged 100% in the service of God.

If you think that what I am doing is a life of sense enjoyment, I challenge you to do what I am doing, to see if you find it easy. I have fully dedicated the last 50 years of my life to bringing true peace and happiness to all the people in our greatly perplexed and bewildered modern day society. I don’t go to restaurants. I don’t watch movies. I don’t engage in sex. I generally sleep no more than 4 or 5 hours a night. I am fully dedicated 24 hours a day to doing the highest welfare work of delivering all living beings who are suffering in cycle of birth and death back to their original liberated positions in the spiritual world, situated far, far beyond this material world in which we are currently imprisoned.

If you find my life to be sinful, I do not know what I can do to pacify you. I am acting strictly in accordance with my spiritual master's instructions and with the teachings of Lord Sri Krishna given by Him in the Bhagavad-gita. What I write is Absolute Truth coming from the Vedas. Thus I am enlightening people all over the world and teaching them how to qualify themselves for going back to the spiritual world when they leave their present material bodies.

I hope this meets you in the best of health.

Sincerely,

Sankarshan Das Adhikari

Thought For The Day: How to Become Fearless

ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

Nobody likes to be afraid. The good news is that nobody has to ever be afraid ever again. All one has to do is take complete shelter of Krishna putting all one's faith and trust completely in Him. Then one becomes completely free from all fear and anxiety. In this connection Srila Prabhupada writes as follows in his purport to Srimad Bhagavatam, Canto 1, Chapter 7, Text 22:

"A devotee of the Lord is always fearless because of the protection given by the Lord. Material existence is something like a blazing fire in the forest, which can be extinguished by the mercy of the Lord Sri Krishna. The spiritual master is the mercy representative of the Lord. Therefore, a person burning in the flames of material existence may receive the rains of mercy of the Lord through the transparent medium of the self-realized spiritual master. The spiritual master, by his words, can penetrate into the heart of the suffering person and inject knowledge transcendental, which alone can extinguish the fire of material existence."

Question: How to Deal with Fear?

Hare Krishna, Guru Maharaja,

Please accept my humble obeisances.

As a devotee, if one feels fear very often like when faced with a big decision or when faced with any minor difficulties, how does the devotee progress? Does this mean that devotee is still in a contaminated position? I heard once that fear is a result of a contaminated consciousness.

Kumaragurubalan Krishnan

Answer: Take Shelter of Krishna

From: ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

My Dear Kumaragurubalan,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Yes, fear means that he is in contaminated state of consciousness because for one whose consciousness is completely pure there is no such thing as fear. So when one finds himself in a fearful situation he should simply complete take shelter of Lord Sri Krishna begging for His protection. In this way his fear will go away, and Krishna will help him to expertly, intelligently deal with the problematic situation.

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in an ecstatic mood.

Thought For The Day: Make the Whole Universe Free of Anxiety

ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

Srila Prabhupada has wonderfully stated in a lecture given on 25 February 1975 in Miami, Florida USA: "So this is our Krishna consciousness movement, to distribute perfect knowledge, Krishna consciousness, and that will make the whole world happy. So try to distribute this knowledge to your best capacity. Krishna will recognize you, that you are trying your best to work on His behalf because He comes down to distribute the knowledge."

And he has also similarly stated in Los Angeles on 2 December 1968: "So when I pass that United Nations building, I simply see the flags are increasing. Instead of increasing the peace movement, the flags are increasing, that's all. So this sort of bluffing blind leaders cannot make happy the human society. This is the only solution: to push on Krishna consciousness movement, love of Godhead. Everyone will be happy, the human society. Visvam purnam sukhayate. Whole universe will be just like Vaikuntha. Vaikuntha means without anxieties."

So, just see how wonderful is this Krishna consciousness movement. It can make everyone in this entire universe happy, completely free from anxiety.

Question: When is Krishna Satisfied?

Dear Srila Gurudeva,

Please accept my humble obeisances.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

How to please Krishna? When He is satisfied? And because of my big ego, I also would like to be somehow satisfied by pleasing Krishna.

Sincerely,
V. dd

Answer: When Spiritual Master is Satisfied

When you please your spiritual master Krishna is pleased. And when you displease your spiritual master, Krishna is displeased. Therefore the disciple always tries to please his spiritual master with his every thought, word, and deed in all times, places and circumstances. This is the secret of success in spiritual life.

Thought For The Day: Srila Prabhupada: Always the Perfect Acarya

ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

Regarding the photo below, I was there in the group of devotees standing with Srila Prabhupada. It was 27 June 1971. Srila Prabhupada had just arrived at the San Francisco airport and he was waiting on the curbside for his ride to take him to the site of the Ratha Yatra to be held that day in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. His ride should have been there, but it was not. It took quite some time for it to arrive. Still without any complaint he simply patiently waited for his ride standing there like an aristocrat gentleman. In this way he was the perfect acarya teaching us by his example the art of patience.

Answers According to Vedic Wisdom

Question: What is Heart, Soul, and Mind?

Dear Sankarshan Das Adhikari Prabhu,

Hare Krishna!. My name is Chitta, originally from India (Puri) but now staying at Copenhagen. I have some queries whose answers I am trying to find out to further motivate myself to proceed on the path of devotional services.

Q. What are the difference between heart, soul, and mind? Where do they reside? Are they connected? Do they change body like changing clothes?

Kind regards,
Chitta

Answer: As Follows

From: ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

My Dear Chitta,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

The heart is an organ made of gross matter. The soul is a spiritual particle that sits within the heart. The mind is hovering around the soul. The soul and mind travel with you when you take your next birth. The heart is left behind.

When you attain perfection, the material mind also stays behind and the pure mind, which is absolutely one with the soul, becomes fully awakened in one's original identity in the pastimes of Krishna in the spiritual world.

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in an ecstatic mood.

Your ever well-wisher,

Thought For The Day: Free From the Fear of Death

ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

Krishna consciousness is indeed most wonderful because it makes you deathless. It elevates you to the plane of immortality. In this regard, Srila Prabhupada writes as follows in his purport to Srimad Bhagavatam, First Canto, Chapter 16, Verse 8:

"Every human being dislikes meeting death, but he does not know how to get rid of death. The surest remedy for avoiding death is to accustom oneself to hearing the nectarean pastimes of the Lord as they are systematically narrated in the text of Srimad Bhagavatam. It is advised herein, therefore, that any human being who desires freedom from death should take to this course of life as recommended by the rishis headed by Saunaka."

The easy way to accomplish this is to regularly read the pastimes of Lord Sri Krishna as they are so wonderfully described in Srila Prabhupada's book called "Krishna."

Question: How to Become Free from Fear of Death?

My pranams, Srila Gurudeva,

Bless me to attain the true goal. Give your blessings always to fulfill the purpose of my human birth. I have a great fear of death. My mother and father have gone towards old age. I also fear how they suffer their conditions of old age because they are not realized persons. I have a great wish they will become self-realized. Even though I advise them in this regards, they live normal material lives with no knowledge of the self. For them my advice is useless.

So, Srila Gurudeva, how can I overcome my fear of death and bless my parents too? What can I do for my parents to lead them the path of self-realization even though they have "deaf ears" because of their ignorance? And how can I overcome the fear of death forever? Even though I know I have no death because I am spirit, I have great fear of death and illness. Bless me, Srila Gurudeva.

Answer: Surrender to Krishna as His Eternal Servant

From: ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

My Dear Usha Devi,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

If you will take complete shelter of the Lord, fully surrendering yourself unto Him as His eternal servant, you will naturally become free from death because you will have awakened your eternal spiritual identity as His servant.

And then from this liberated position you can enlighten your parents how to revive their eternal spiritual identities as Lord Sri Krishna’s eternal servants, thus freeing them also from the fear of death.

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in an ecstatic mood.

Thought For The Day: The Mercy of Krishna Prasadam

ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

Krishna is so kind that He has appeared in the form of prasadam, the vegetarian foodstuffs that have been offered to Him with love and devotion. Srila Prabhupada gave us a wonderful prayer that we can say before we take prasadam. It goes like this:

"O Lord! This material body is a lump of ignorance, and the senses are a network of paths leading to death. Somehow or other we have fallen into the ocean of material sense enjoyment, and of all the senses the tongue is the most voracious and uncontrollable. It is very difficult to conquer the tongue in this world, but You, dear Krsna, are very kind to us. You have sent this nice prasada to help us conquer the tongue; therefore let us take this prasada to our full satisfaction and glorify Your Lordships Sri Sri Radha and Krsna and in love call for the help of Lord Caitanya and Prabhu Nityananda."

We do not eat prasadam like ordinary food. Rather we joyfully, reverentially honor it as the special mercy of Krishna. Prasadam empowers, energizes, and purifies us to facilitate our attaining the supreme perfection of pure love of God.

Question: Why Krishna Ordered Lord Shiva Like This?

Dear Srila Gurudeva,

Please accept my humble obeisances at your lotus feet.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

I am one of those fortunate souls who had the very rare opportunity to be the servant of Your Grace and Gurumata during your recent visit to Vrindavana and Pune. I am not even qualified to have a glance of yours, but out of your extreme mercy, even though I am not an initiated devotee but an aspiring disciple, Your Grace and Gurumata allowed me to render some personal service at my very first visit.

Gurudeva, from the below text mentioned in the Srimad Bhagavatam Canto 1, Introduction, I want to understand why Krishna dictated to Lord Shiva like this? What is the reason?

"In the Padma Purana it is stated that the Personality of Godhead ordered His Lordship Shiva to deviate the human race from Him (the Personality of Godhead.) The Personality of Godhead was to be so covered so that people would be encouraged to generate more and more population. His Lordship Shiva said to Devi: 'In the Kali-yuga, I shall preach the Mayavada philosophy, which is nothing but clouded Buddhism, in the garb of a brahmana.' "

Your Insignificant Servant,

Answer: To Facilitate Those Who Want to Forget Him

From: ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

My Dear Tulasiram,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

In the Bhagavad-gita (15.15) Lord Krishna states:

"I am seated in everyone's heart, and from Me come remembrance, knowledge and forgetfulness.”

In the Kali-yuga because most people desire to forget God, Krishna facilitates them by ordering Lord Siva to teach a deviant philosophy.

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in an ecstatic mood.

Thought For The Day: Nothing More Ecstatic than Hare Krishna Kirtana

ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

In the material world everyone is trying to enjoy. Unfortunately they do not know how to enjoy. Thus they live frustrated, miserable lives until they finally die. And then because they committed so many sinful activities in a life based on material sense gratification they descend to the animal kingdom in their next births. How sad and pathetic can you get? If they could only somehow or other taste the the topmost pleasure of Hare Krishna kirtana, their lives would be completely changed. This is why our goal is to induce the entire world to chant Hare Krishna. We are praying to Krishna that very soon we can attract the entire world to dive deep, deep, deep, into the sublime pleasure of chanting:

Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna, Krishna, Hare Hare
Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare

May that day come soon. Lord Sri Krishna, please bless us that that day may come very soon.

Answers According to Vedic Wisdom

Question: Where Have We Come From?

All Glories to Guru and Gauranga !!!

Dandavat pranam, Maharaja.

Hope you are in good health.

In a recent Srimad Bhagavatam class, the preacher said that we have not come from Goloka Vrindavana. This is troubling me too much that we have not come from Krishna's abode because in ISKCON we have always been told of having associated with Krishna in the beginning. And now here is something totally contradictory. I'm sure the speaker is not wrong, but I am unable to digest, may be missing some details. Please enlighten me, Maharaja.

Thank you

Yours humble servant in the service of Guru and Gauranga,

Malobika

Answer: We've Come from the Spiritual World

From: ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

My Dear Malobika,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

In this regard, Srila Prabhupada writes in his purport to Srimad Bhagavatam, Canto 4, Chapter 28, Text 54 as follows:

"The original home of the living entity and the Supreme Personality of Godhead is the spiritual world. In the spiritual world both the Lord and the living entities live together very peacefully. Since the living entity remains engaged in the service of the Lord, they both share a blissful life in the spiritual world. However, when the living entity wants to enjoy himself, he falls down into the material world. Even while he is in that position, the Lord remains with him as the Supersoul, his intimate friend. Because of his forgetfulness, the living entity does not know that the Supreme Lord is accompanying him as the Supersoul. In this way the living entity remains conditioned in each and every millennium. Although the Lord follows him as a friend, the living entity, because of forgetful material existence, does not recognize Him."

Sometimes devotees who are not very learned in Srila Prabhupada’s teachings will come up by mental speculation with a different explanation of the origin of the living beings. Such devotees should not be allowed to give lectures because they simply cause confusion in the minds of the devotees, as you are now experiencing.

All living beings have fallen either from Goloka Vrindavan or one of the Vaikuntha planets due to a misuse of their free will, i.e. they became envious of the Lord’s supreme position wanting to enjoy it for themselves. But by this process of Krishna consciousness they will become cured of this envious mentality and reinstated in their original position either in Goloka Vrindavan or on one the Vaikuntha planets in the spiritual world.

So the speaker was wrong because he did not preach according to Srila Prabhupada’s books.

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in an ecstatic mood.

Your ever well-wisher,

Sankarshan Das Adhikari

Answers According to Vedic Wisdom

Question: Does the Spiritual Master Ever Fall Down?

Dear Guru Maharaja,
My respectful obesiasance unto you.

I have a senior devotee friend, Pandu, from Vrindavana Dhama. I have discussed about you. He has questions for which he wants answers from you. As he does not know English and also how to email, I am writing on his behalf. His questions are:

1. Does the spiritual master ever falls down from his position into sense degradation?
2. Is the spiritual master actually spiritual?
3. What is the meaning of taking initiation?
4. What is Krishna consciousness?

Seema Sharma

Answer: Not If He Is Bona Fide

From: ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

My Dear Seema,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

The bona fide spiritual master never falls down into material sense gratification because he is solidly situated on the spiritual platform. Every living being is actually spiritual, but most people don’t realize this. The spiritual master is a person who has fully realized his spiritual nature and thus engages himself 100% in the service of Lord Sri Krishna.

Initiation is a vow of fully surrendering oneself unto the spiritual master accepting his instructions as one’s very life and soul for all of eternity without any deviation.

Krishna consciousness means to be fully absorbed in remembering and serving Lord Sri Krishna with love in all times, places, and circumstances with all of one’s thoughts, words, and deeds for all of eternity. It is the perfection of existence in which one is reinstated in his actual original consciousness. In other words, it is not an artificial imposition of the mind. It is the re-awakening of one’s original, natural energy.

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in an ecstatic mood.

Sankarshan Das Adhikari

Thought For The Day: The Denial of Denial Itself

ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

As a young spiritual seeker 50 years ago my conception of liberation or freedom from all the miseries of material existence was the complete, total negation of absolutely everything. In India this is known as the path of "neti neti--not this, not that." Thus I was on the path of the philosophical negation of utterly, unconditionally everything in all of existence. For this purpose my decision was to completely renounce this material world by going to India to spend the rest of my life as a mendicant, a holy beggar.

However as I was heading east towards India one evening I had the most astounding realization, which I immediately wrote down on a piece of paper: "I denied and denied until I could deny no longer, and then I had to start accepting." Having unequivocally dedicated myself to the absolute denial of everything, in the final analysis I reached the point of denying the last thing left to deny. In other words now I had to also deny denial itself.

When one renounces everything he ultimately must also renounce renunciation to become complete in his renunciation. So now instead of negating and leaving the world my new agenda was to remain in the world for bringing about a global spiritual revolution.

Thus instead of continuing eastward towards India I was inspired by the Lord within to travel west to San Francisco where the first people I met was a beautiful group of Hare Krishna devotees in their flowing robes and saris coming out of Golden Gate Park where they had just performed Harinama Sankirtana. I was awed to see them, just like they were coming out of a famous movie. They were heading back to their temple at 518 Frederick Street, and I went with them.

I should have joined immediately. But instead I most foolishly wasted two-and-a-half years trying to spark off a spiritual revolution on my own until it dawned on me that Krishna wanted me to become the fully surrendered disciple of Srila Prabhupada for assisting him in his global respiritualization mission, which will go down in history for saving the world in its darkest hour of despair, bringing about the greatest paradigm shift that the world has ever known.

So this what I have been doing now since 1971. I am now praying for Lord Krishna's, Lord Caitanya's, and Srila Prabhupada's mercy that very soon Krishna consciousness will be universally accepted by all as the world religion.

Answers According to Vedic Wisdom

Question: When Doctors Joyfully Murder a Patient

Hare Krishna, Prabhu. Dandavat pranama. I am Smriti. I am chanting 16 rounds of Hare Krishna japa mala every day and following the four regulative principles. I work in a hospital as a nurse in a reputated hospital in Delhi. Once I found a patient very sick, and I informed the doctor about the same. Suddenly the same patient underwent cardiac arrest. The doctors and other staff came there and gave her CPR. She was revived, but every sign showed that she will die very soon within a couple of hours. The doctors went to take dinner. Again the patient got cardiac arrest and I called them. They ignored this. I again called them and they came after 10 minutes to the patient's bed. They called the patient's family and tried to show them that they are actually helping the patient, but inside the room the doctors were laughing at what they were doing. There are a few life saving drugs. But instead of using life saving drugs they loaded the syringe with normal glucose water labelling it as being one of the life saving drugs. They even disconnected the ventilator. The patient died. I was a part of the murder. But because I was the most junior person there I couldn't say a single word. I did not do anything wrong to the patient. I tried to save her life. I feel very bad about this. In the future I may again face situations like this. How to overcome such situation? Please help me.

Your servant,
Smriti

Answer: Make a Revolution to Curb Down Demoniac Mentality

From: ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

My Dear Smriti.

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Just see. These people are actually demons. They had fun murdering the patient while posing as someone who was trying to help the patient. This is why we are trying to make a spiritual revolution on this planet to turn all of the demons into devotees. We are therefore requesting all intelligent, thoughtful, and compassionate people all over the world to join with us in this Krishna consciousness movement for the respiritualization of the world society. So you kindly dedicate your life for helping us to make a spiritual revolution on this planet. This is the only solution for curbing down the demoniac mentality, which is the predominant symptom of our present age of Kali.

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in an ecstatic mood.

When our hearts become completely pure we will see Krishna eye to eye, just as I can see you or you can see me. In this regard Srila Prabhupada explains as follows in a Bhagavad-gita lecture given in New York City on 27 November 1966:

"Krishna is within you. We have no realization. Due to my material conception of life, I have no realization. So you have to realize that Krishna is there, and you have to purify yourself by service attitude. Then Krishna will reveal. You will see, eye to eye."

He also explains in a Bhagavad-gita lecture given in New York City on 14 August 1966 as follows:

"Because I cannot see what is happening beyond this wall, oh, that does not mean there is nothing beyond this wall. So everyone wants to see God immediately. God you can see when you are perfectly qualified. When you are in perfect knowledge, you can see God eye to eye just like you are seeing me, I am seeing you. But that requires qualification. You have to wait. That qualification is Krishna consciousness. That qualification means Krishna consciousness."

Question: How to Preach Boldly When You Are Not Perfect?

Dear Srila Gurudeva,

Please accept my humble obeisances.

I know I have to become Krishna conscious for myself, for Your Divine Grace and Srimati Gurumataji, and now for my husband also, and yes for the whole world actually because an individual's becoming Krishna conscious has an impact on the global consciousness. There are so many reasons to be Krishna conscious. There is only one reason of not being Krishna conscious, that is uncontrolled senses.

Dear Srila Gurudeva, when I am not able to control my senses, and thus practice with full perfection, how do I boldly represent the movement and philosophy to others? If I am seeing myself with more degraded nature, how do I impress on others about the mystic power of the movement?

Thank you.

Answer: Bold Preaching Will Help You Become Perfect

From: ISKCON Austin, Texas

My Dear Lila Manjari,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

In spite of our many deficiencies, preaching boldly will help us overcome our deficiencies because such preaching is obedience to the order of Lord Caitanya:

"Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu therefore advised everyone to become a guru-devotee and preach Krsna consciousness (yare dekha, tare kaha 'krsna'-upadesa [Cc. Madhya 7.128]). That is the easiest way to realize the Supreme Personality of Godhead. By such preaching, the preacher becomes satisfied, and those to whom he preaches are also satisfied. This is the process of bringing peace and tranquillity to the entire world." (from the purport to Srimad Bhagavatam 7th Canto, Chapter 6, Text 24)

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in an ecstatic mood.

Thought For The Day: Spiritual Revolution For Bringing True Happiness to the World

ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

As a youth back in the 60's who was supposed to be choosing a career, I could not relate to any kind of career for earning a livelihood in this world. My only desire was to become self-realized. For this purpose I was on my way to India to renounce the world as a holy beggar fully absorbed in the quest for self-realization. However, along the way I realized that to become perfect and complete in renunciation I would also have to renounce renunciation. I realized that renouncing the world was not perfection, that the real perfection was to remain in the world for bringing about a spiritual revolution on this planet for bringing true peace and happiness to all. For two years I tried unsuccessfully doing that on my own. But when I saw that the Hare Krishna movement was successfully making a spiritual revolution I surrendered to its founder, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, as his completely sold out disciple. So now for almost 50 years I have been fully dedicated to carrying out Srila Prabhupada's order to deliver the world from chaos by making a all-encompassing global spiritual revolution. This is the only solution that can bring true peace and happiness to all living beings throughout our universe and indeed the entire multi-universe material existence.

This is an appeal to all our readers that you kindly fully dedicate your lives to assist us in bringing about a spiritual revolution on this planet. This will bring the much desired true peace and happiness to everyone.

Request: Help Me Get Money

I am not a happy man for the past twenty six years. Nothing seems to be in my favor concerning finding money and wealth. I cannot even continue my university education. I need spiritual help to be able to solve my money-making problem and to create wealth.

Thank you.

Iddrisu Fushani

Answer: What You Really Need is Krishna

From: ISKCON Austin, Texas

My Dear Iddrisu,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

You are foolishly thinking that happiness means having money. What you don’t realize is that no matter how much money you may have, you will never be happy unless you have love of God. And if you have love of God, you will completely happy whether you are a millionaire or a penniless beggar. Therefore my best advice to you is that you should fully dedicate your life now for awakening your dormant Krishna consciousness. If you do so, all your problems of life will be automatically solved, and you will be one the happiest people in the entire world.

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in an ecstatic mood.

Thought For The Day: How to Conquer Depression

ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

Depression is a mental condition characterized by feelings of severe despondency and dejection, typically also with feelings of inadequacy and guilt, often accompanied by lack of energy and disturbance of appetite and sleep. It is indeed a very miserable state to be in. Those who are in depression find life to be unbearably miserable and often think of dying and sometimes even go so far as to commit suicide. Depression is described as follows in the Srimad Bhagavatam, 11th Canto, Chapter 25, Verse 18:

sidac cittam viliyeta
cetaso grahane 'ksamam
mano nastam tamo glanis
tamas tad upadharaya

"When one's higher awareness fails and finally disappears and one is thus unable to concentrate his attention, his mind is ruined and manifests ignorance and depression. You should understand this situation to be the predominance of the mode of ignorance."

So what can the depressed person do to conquer over this miserable state of mind and become fully jolly and enthusiastic?

Srila Prabhupada wonderfully writes in his purport to text 5 in the Narada Bhakti Sutra as follows:

"When one becomes disappointed in his service to the Supreme Lord, that disappointment must be rejected and replaced with confidence in attaining the ultimate goal, love of Godhead. The devotee should patiently follow the rules and regulations of devotional service so that the day will come when he will achieve, all of a sudden, all the perfection of devotional service. He should not lament for any loss or any reverse in his advancement in spiritual life. This patience (dhairya) is the third positive item for advancing in devotional service."

So the point is that one should not punish himself for his lack of Krishna consciousness making himself miserable and depressed. Instead one should always have full faith in the process of Krishna consciousness and reward himself by always enthusiastically engaging in Krishna consciousness with his mind, words, and deeds in spite of the many impurities that are naturally there in the heart of a neophyte devotee. In this way he will kick out depression ands make regular steady progress towards attaining the ultimate goal of pure love of Godhead, in which he will be swimming in an ocean of unlimited transcendental bliss at every minute. Thus he will easily conquer over depression and experience a joyful life of Krishna consciousness every day.

Dear Srila Gurudeva,

Please accept my humble obeisance at your lotus feet.
All Glories to Your Divine Grace.
All Glories to Srila Prabhupada.

I hope that you and Gurumata are in good health.

Dear Srila Gurudeva,

When I do my rounds I feel that I am getting closer to Lord Krishna and I want to serve Him more closely, but at the same time Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu said we should be the servant of the servant of the servant, which I try to follow. So is it okay to have this feeling of serving Lord Krsna more closely?

Answer: That Is a First Class Desire

From: ISKCON Austin, Texas

My Dear Vasundhara,

Yes, the desire to serve Krishna more closely is a first class spiritual desire. You should continue hankering in this way. At the same time you should remember that this state of being close to Krishna will be achieved by your perfecting the art of serving your spiritual master and Lord Krishna’s devotees.

Thought For The Day: Is There Happiness in Brahman Realization?

ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

If someone is hitting you with a hammer and they stop hitting you, you will feel some relief although you will not be in an ecstatic situation. This is compared to the Brahman realization attained by impersonalists after thousands and millions of years. Of course there is a sense of relief or happiness when the impersonalist becomes free from the cycle of birth and death. But it is practically nothing compared to the happiness easily attained by the devotee even within one lifetime. Here is how Srila Prabhupada describes the difference:

"The last word in knowledge is certainly not self-realization or Brahman realization. There is more to realize -- namely, that the jiva is the eternal servant of Lord Krsna. This realization is the awakening of supramental consciousness, and the activities a jiva performs in such consciousness are the beginning of his eternal life. When the jiva performs all his activities under the direction of the Lord's internal, spiritual energy, he enjoys eternal transcendental bliss, which is a billion times greater than the happiness of Brahman realization. The difference in transcendental joy between the two is like the difference between the vast ocean and the water collected in a calf's hoofprint."

Therefore the devotees do not waste their time trying to merge into Brahman. They instead joyfully chant Hare Krishna and easily go back to Godhead without having to execute any difficult austerities.

Question: What Perfection is Krishna Referring To?

Dear Srila Gurudeva,

Please accept my humble obeisances.
All glories to you.

I was hearing on your video for the day about how human life is meant for self-realization. Your Divine Grace quoted the Bhagavad-gita verse "manushyanam sahasreshu." My question is : What is this perfection which Lord Krishna refers to here? In Bhagavad-gita 16.23 (yah sastra vidhim utsrjya) Lord Krishna also talks of perfection. What are these perfections which Lord Krishna is referring to in both these places?

Thank you, Srila Gurudeva, for beautiful video "Nowadays Human Beings Are Like Dogs". Kindly bless me out of your causeless mercy only that I may become freed from this dogish mentality of simply looking for sense enjoyment, which I am myself very much afflicted with, and achieve the goal of life.

Just for your information I wanted to mention that actually I am not in any bad situation. I may not be at where I could have been at 28 years of age, but I am still receiving much, much more than what I deserve. I am not being provided less or paid just. It is much more. So there are no complaints.

My humble obeisances unto Your Divine Grace and Gurumataji.

Begging your causeless mercy,

Your insignificant servant,
Visvanath das

Answer: Pure Devotional Service

From: ISKCON Austin, Texas

My Dear Visvanath,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

The perfection described in both verses is the same. Srila Prabhupada describes perfection as follows:

“Therefore one should gradually raise himself to the platform of Krishna consciousness and devotional service; it is then and there that he can attain the highest perfectional stage, not otherwise.” (from purport to BG 16.23)

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in an ecstatic mood.

So let us now fully surrender ourselves mind, body, and words in all times, places, and circumstances to be fully and purely absorbed following his divine teachings. If we will do so, in eighteen days we can make the whole world Krishna conscious thus bringing in the full blown manifestation of the golden era of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. The bona fide guru presents the teachings of Krishna exactly as given in the Bhagavad-gita as it is. Lord Caitanya's world deliverance mission is the greatest benediction upon the suffering souls of this material world. Anyone who takes shelter of Him by regularly chanting the Hare Krishna mantra under the direction of the bona fide spiritual master will be saved from this most hellish material existence and restored to their original transcendental identity in the pastimes of the Supreme Lord in the deathless spiritual world. From: ISKCON Austin, Texas

My Dear Shaykh,

All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Just take complete shelter of Lord Sri Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead. He is millions of times more powerful than even the most wicked demons invoked by black magic. He kills all the demons. The way to take shelter of Him is to chant His holy names as much as possible every day.

Lord Caitanya recommends that we constantly remember Lord Krishna by chanting His holy names:

Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare
Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare.

This sublime process is essential for every human actually desirous of purifying his existence.

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in an ecstatic mood.

Sex Is a Beautiful Gift From God

ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

Sex is a beautiful gift from God for producing saintly children. In fact, Lord Sri Krishna openly declares in the Bhagavad-gita that such sex done in accordance with religious principles is He Himself:

dharmaviruddho bhutesu
kamo 'smi bharatarsabha

"I am that sex life which is not contrary to religious principles,
O lord of the Bharatas [Arjuna]."

Bhagavad-gita 7.11

Usually in today's grossly materialistic society people have sex simply for fun. Such sex is material sense gratification and does not represent Krishna. In fact, it is simply downright sinful. However, sex engaged in according to the directions of the spiritual master and the scriptures for producing saintly children is purely spiritual. Indeed, it is factually Krishna Himself. Such sex is desirable and wonderful because it attracts highly qualified souls to take birth who will be a blessing to this world. Therefore we must always remember that sex is for procreation only. It is not for recreation.

Dear Srila Gurudeva,

Please accept our humble obeisances.

We are begging for your mercy to beget a Krishna conscious child. Please bless us.

Answer: Strictly Follow These Guidelines

I am very happy to give you my blessings for trying to have a Krishna conscious child, provided you follow Srila Prabhupada instructions for householders who want to have a child.

Once in a month 5 or 6 days after your wife’s menstrual period and after you have both chanted at least 50 rounds of japa you can have sex for trying to get child. If you want to have more than one child, Prabhupada’s instruction is that once your wife is pregnant there should be no more sex until the child is born and at least six month’s old. If you follow these guidelines, you certainly have my full blessings for trying to get a nice saintly child.

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in an ecstatic mood.

Thought For The Day: What I Hate About Lithuania

Kaunas, Lithuania

The spiritual atmosphere manifested by the devotees in Lithuania is so sweetly wonderful that being here is just like being in the spiritual world surfing in the waves of the ocean of unlimited spiritual bliss. However there is one thing I really hate about this place, and that it is leaving it. Of course by diving deeply into the ocean of Krishna bhakti we are living in that unlimitedly nectarean spiritual world at every minute no matter where we are here in this most rotten material world. This is my one consolation. Therefore I am begging Lord Sri Krishna and my most beloved spiritual master, His Divine Grace A.C. Thought For The Day: The Whole World is Waiting

Kaunas, Lithuania

The whole world is waiting to be awakened to Krishna consciousness. Within the innermost core of their being every living entity in this material world is hankering to become awakened to Krishna consciousness. Although this is buried deep within their sub-consciousness, by association with the devotees, with the holy names, or with transcendental literature this hankering can become fully manifested in their consciousness. This is why we have to flood the world with Prabhupada's books, with the holy names, and mercifully give the people our association.

Question: Happiness in Worst Conditions?

Srila Gurudeva, how to be happy in even the worst conditions of life?

Pooja Seh

Answer: Worst Times Are the Greatest Blessing

The times when things are really bad are the most fortunate times of our lives because at such times we can easily remember that this material world is simply a place of misery, that our real home is with Lord Sri Krishna in the spiritual world. Simply by remembering this you can turn your worst times into your best times. If you will regularly chant the Hare Krishna mahamantra:

Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna
Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare
Hare Rama, Hare Rama
Rama Rama, Hare Hare

it will be very easy to always remember this and to always be in a state of bliss.

Thought For The Day: Unlock Your True Self

Kaunas, Lithuania

Don't cheat yourself out of the unlimited bliss that is your constitutional original nature. All you really have to do to relish unlimited bliss at every minute is just be yourself. The difficulty is that we live right now in a world where we have been completely, totally programmed with a false conception of who we are. Even though our material bodies are just temporary garments that we are wearing for some time, we foolishly accept them as our actual selves. Thus we unnecessarily suffer the pangs of birth, death, old age, and disease.

By hearing from revealed scriptures and the bona fide spiritual master we can understand that we are not these bodies, but are instead eternal spiritual beings currently foolishly misidentifying ourselves with our material bodies. And then by applying the yogic techniques taught by the spiritual master and the scriptures we can become fully awakened back into our original enlightened and fully blissful consciousness.

Question: How Can I Advance from Bhava to Prema?

I am a servant of your lotus feet. I have been in Krishna consciousness since 2013 for 5 years now. Now I have developed bhava bhakti. By the grace of Sri Gurudev I show all 8 symptoms of love like crying, hair standing on end, laughing out loud, feeling ecstasy while chanting, burps or belching while chanting, yawning while chanting, rolling on the floor when thinking of Radha Krishna and dancing. Please tell me how can I attain pure Krishna prema quickly. I am dying to reach prema bhakti. Please be merciful on me. Please help me reach Krishna prema.

Thank you.

Your servant
Abhay C.

Answer: You Need to First Become Perfect in Sadhana

What you are experiencing is a shadow of bhava bhakti. If you had actually attained the bhava stage of bhakti, you would not be needing to ask me how to proceed further to the prema stage of pure love of God.

The real bhava bhakti stage is attained only after one becomes perfect in executing sadhana-bhakti. This perfection is attained by taking initiation from the bona fide spiritual master and fully surrendering yourself unto him. Only after becoming perfect in sadhana-bhakti can one gradually reach the stage of bhava bhakti, which naturally transforms into the supreme perfection of prema bhakti.

The various stages of bhakti are explained as follows in the Sri Caitanya-caritamrita Madhya 23.14–15:

"‘In the beginning there must be faith. Then one becomes interested in associating with pure devotees. Thereafter one is initiated by the spiritual master and executes the regulative principles under his orders. Thus one is freed from all unwanted habits and becomes firmly fixed in devotional service. Thereafter, one develops taste and attachment. This is the way of sadhana-bhakti, the execution of devotional service according to the regulative principles. Gradually emotions intensify (bhava), and finally there is an awakening of love (prema). This is the gradual development of love of Godhead for the devotee interested in Krishna consciousness."

Answers According to Vedic Wisdom

Question: How the Spiritual Master's Body is Spiritual?

The body of the spiritual master is not ordinary body, but transcendental one. This has been said quite often in our teachings. But then how come such a body also has to undergo the usual pain and suffering through diseases and even accidents? I wonder. Please explain.

Thank You.

With Regards,
Golok Das

Answer: Like an Iron Rod in a Fire

One may question how the spiritual master's body can be transcendental and still become ill. The answer is that although the spiritual master’s body is made of material elements, it is still spiritual because it is being absorbed 100% in the service of Lord. Just as an iron rod which is placed into a fire becomes fire, the spiritual master’s body is spiritual because it is being engaged 100% in the service of the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
