Thought For The Day: The Unlimited Compassion of Vasudeva Datta

Sri Vrindavana Dhama, India

Srila Prabhupada describes the most exalted devotee, Vasudeva Datta, as follows in the Caitanya-caritamrita, Adi Lila, Chapter 10, Verse 41 purport as follows:

Vasudeva Datta, the brother of Mukunda Datta, was also a resident of Cattagrama. In the Caitanya-bhagavata it is said, 'yanra sthane krsna haya apane vikraya': Vasudeva Datta was such a powerful devotee that Krishna a was purchased by him. Vasudeva Datta stayed at Srivasa Pandita’s house, and in the Caitanya-bhagavata it is described that Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu was so pleased with Vasudeva Datta and so affectionate toward him that He used to say, “I am only Vasudeva Datta’s man. My body is only meant to please Vasudeva Datta, and he can sell Me anywhere.” Thrice He vowed that this was a fact and that no one should disbelieve these statements. “All My dear devotees,” He said, “I tell you the truth. My body is especially meant for Vasudeva Datta.” Vasudeva Datta initiated Sri Yadunandana Acarya, the spiritual master of Raghunatha dasa, who later became Raghunatha dasa Gosvami. This will be found in the Caitanya-caritamrta, Antya-lila, Sixth Chapter, verse 161. Vasudeva Datta spent money very liberally; therefore Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu asked Sivananda Sena to become his sarakhela, or secretary, in order to control his extravagant expenses. Vasudeva Datta was so kind to the living entities that he wanted to take all their sinful reactions so that they might be delivered by Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. (end of quote)

We cannot even begin to imagine how exalted a devotee is Vasudeva Datta. But we can pray for his mercy that we can develop unalloyed compassion upon the suffering, fallen souls in this material world.

Answers According to Vedic Wisdom

Question: How to Attain Pure Love of God?

Dear Srila Gurudeva,

Please accept my humble obeisances.
All glories to you.

In the Nectar Of Devotion, Chapter 14, Srila Prabhupada mentions, "... devotional service depends on nothing more than the sentiments or desire for such service. It requires nothing more than sincerity." Would it be correct to conclude from this statement that if one simply wants pure devotional service, one will get it?

Also in Chapter 15, Srila Prabhupada mentions how Kamsa was attracted to the Lord out of fear and Sisupala out of envy and from the versions of Srila Rupa Gosvami, Srila Prabhupada mentions how they could only achieve the brahmajyoti. My question is how could one who might have come to Lord out of fear or envy can become situated in love for Him ? I was thinking that after all the Lord is worthy of being served out of love, that is why so many scriptures and great saintly persons all sing of Him. So this fear and envy must be due to some misconceptions or misinformation only. It cannot be the natural state. So how can this be corrected and replacement with love for Krishna may occur?

Please forgive me for my offences and kindly keep me as an object of your causeless mercy.

My humble prostrated obeisances unto you and Gurumataji.

Your insignificant servant,
Visvanatha das

Answer: Serve Krishna Under the Guidance of the Bona Fide Spiritual Master

From: Sri Vrindavana Dhama

My Dear Visvanatha,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Yes, if one desires devotional service so strongly that it burns away all of his other desires, he will most certainly attain the perfectional stage of pure devotional service.

Yes, fear and envy are due to ignorance. One should remember that only the mood of pure love of God can satisfy the self. This is compared to a fish who cannot be happy unless he is in the water. In any condition of life, if one will serve Krishna under the guidance of the bona fide spiritual master, he will regain in due course of time his natural constitutional nature of pure love of God.

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in an ecstatic mood.

Your ever well-wisher,

Sankarshan Das Adhikari

Thought For The Day: Unlimited Good Fortune of Worshipping Srila Prabhupada

Sri Vrindavana Dhama, India

On 28 March 2018 in at the Krishna Balarama temple in Sri Vrindavana Dhama, where the benefit of all devotional activities is magnified 1,000 times, I was blessed with the most auspicious of all opportunities. I was so unlimitedly fortunate that I was gifted with the greatest privilege of being able to offer the arati to my beloved spiritual master during the guru puja ceremony.

Here is the translation of the song that we sing when worshipping Srila Prabhupada:

The lotus feet of our spiritual master are the only way by which we can attain pure devotional service. I bow to his lotus feet with great awe and reverence. By his grace one can cross the ocean of material suffering and obtain the mercy of Krsna.

My only wish is to have my consciousness purified by the words emanating from his lotus mouth. Attachment to his lotus feet is the perfection that fulfills all desires.

He opens my darkened eyes and fills my heart with transcendental knowledge. He is my Lord birth after birth. From him ecstatic prema emanates; by him ignorance is destroyed. The Vedic scriptures sing of his character.

Our spiritual master is the ocean of mercy, the friend of the poor, and the lord and master of the devotees. O master! Be merciful unto me. Give me the shade of your lotus feet. Your fame is spread all over the three worlds.

Question: Is Initiation a Karmic Contract?

Can initiation be understood as a karmic contract between the guru and the devotee?

Karl

Answer: Initiation Is An Akarmic Contract

Initiation is not a karmic contract. It is an an akarmic contract. "Karmic" refers to something that binds you tightly in the laws of action and reaction within the material nature. And "akarmic" refers to that which is outside of the laws of material nature or which liberates one from the laws of action and reaction within the material nature. So when one gets initiated and seriously follows his initiation vows he becomes liberated from all of the karma he has accrued over millions and billions of lifetimes. He can then regain his original eternal spiritual identity within the pastimes of Lord Krishna in the para-vyoma, that most wondrous spiritual sky.

How to Become Free From All Miseries

Sri Vrindavana Dhama, India

The cause of all miseries is unfulfilled material desires. But for one whose heart becomes completely filled up with spiritual desires there is nothing to be tasted except for ever-increasing spiritual bliss at every minute. Therefore the only intelligent thing to do is fill our heart with spiritual desires. This means to have only one desire: the desire to please Krishna or God with our every thought, word, and deed in all times, places, and circumstances for all of eternity. When this one desire is there we will discover that there are unlimited ways to serve, see and please our beloved Lord.

So how do we achieve this most rare perfection of consciousness? It's very simple. We simply have to beg for it and beg for it and beg for it until it is finally achieved. It's really just that simple. Krishna is God. He is ready and willing to fulfill our desire for pure love for Him. All we have to do is sincerely ask for it with all of our heart, and it will be ours.

Here's a lecture I gave on this same topic on 28 March 2018 in Vrindavana, India:

Question: How Turn Lust Into Love of God?

My Dear Respected Gurudeva,

Please accept my humble obeisances to your lotus feet.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

I can't advance in Krishna consciousness. I'm too attached to sense gratification. What should I do to become a Krishna conscious pure devotee starting from now?

How to appreciate enough that Krishna has given me my wonderful devotee friends and my wonderful Gurudeva? I see that I have no other thing to do but serve Guru and Krishna and Vaisnavas and offer everything to Krishna eternally with love. But still I do not appreciate this enough.

How to turn material lust back into pure love for Krishna? This lust is so strong. So my love for Krishna should be very strong. I just dont know what to do.

Sincerely
Your struggling student

Answer: Cry Out to Krishna For Help

You simply have to intensely, urgently cry out to Krishna like a man drowning in the ocean calling out for help from a ship that is passing by. The urgency of your cry will burn away all of your material desires, and you will find yourself happily celebrating the bliss of pure love of God.

Thought For The Day: Conquering Over Depression

Sri Vrindavana Dhama, India

At the present time in our modern day world, depression is a leading cause of both physical and mental disorder. It is so bad that the World Health Organization has predicted that by 2030, depression will account for the highest level of disability accorded any physical or mental disorder in the world.

Depression is not new. It was experienced in the ancient times as well. But the ancients knew how to conquer it. We don't.

For example, once upon a time many thousands of years ago, just prior to her marriage to Lord Krishna, Princess Rukmini became exceedingly depressed. Out of compassion Lord Balarama instructed her, "With transcendental knowledge dispel the grief that is weakening and confounding your mind. Please resume your natural mood, O princess of the pristine smile." Balarama's advice was accepted by Rukmini. Thus enlightened by Lord Balarama, slender Rukmini forgot her depression and steadied her mind by spiritual intelligence. There are many such examples in the Vedic literature. Arjuna conquered depression by hearing from Lord Krishna. Srila Vyasadeva conquered depression by hearing from Narada Muni. This list goes on and on and on.

So from the Vedic history we should learn our lesson that depression is conquered by transcendental knowledge. We pray that the whole world will now wake up to this understanding of how to conquer depression.

Question: Give to the Needy or to the Temple?

Hare Krishna, respected Gurudeva.

Please accept my humble obeisances.

Recently we are being asked to offer pure ghee for the cooking at ISCON kitchen. Sometimes we see very needy mothers and children starving on the streets. I feel so much pity for them, that I personally feel that I should give the food ingredients to them instead. After all Krishna resides in their hearts too. And He is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, He doesn't require anything.

What should I do? Offer at the temple or give to the needy? Please clear my doubt.

Thank you,
Rashmi

Answer: Give to Temple or Distribute Prasadam to the Poor

From: Sri Vrindavana Dhama

My Dear Rashmi,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

If you distribute already prepared foodstuffs which have been offered to Krishna to the poor people, that will be first class service. They will receive the blessing of Krishna prasadam. Do not give them ingredients for their own cooking because they will not offer their food to Krishna and will be thus eating only sin, and you will get a bad karmic reaction. But if you give them prasadam, they will benefit, and you will also greatly benefit. Krishna will bless both you and them.

If you are not able to distribute prasadam to the poor, you should give ghee to the temple and let the temple do the prasadam distribution. This will greatly benefit you and others.

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in an ecstatic mood.

Thought For The Day: Always Be Prepared For Life's Final Exam

Sri Vrindavana Dhama, India

A good student always remembers that at the end of the semester he must take a final exam for each course that he is taking. By remembering this, he prepares himself well by dutifully studying, writing papers, and attending classes throughout the semester. In a similar way a thoughtful, conscientious devotee of Krishna always remember that his Krishna consciousness will be tested at the time of death. Therefore he carefully and thoughtfully practices Krishna consciousness throughout his entire life so that when life's final exam, i.e. death, comes he is fully prepared to pass the exam and go back to home, back to Godhead.

Question: What is My Next Step?

Dear Gurudeva,

Hare Krishna.

I have been chanting 16 rounds of the Hare Krishna mantra daily on japa mala beads for the last nine years. Plus I am regularly reading Srila Prabhupada's books. I accept Krishna as Bhagavan, the Supreme Personality of Godhead. So what is the next step for me on the path of spiritual perfection?

Please help me.

Thanks,
Naresh

Answer: Become an Initiated Disciple

From: Sri Vrindavana Dhama

My Dear Naresh,

Thought For The Day: Immediately Make the Whole World Krishna Conscious

Sri Vrindavana Dhama, India

The Srimad Bhagavatam (9.10.53) states:

"When Lord Ramacandra, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, was the King of this world, all bodily and mental suffering, disease, old age, bereavement, lamentation, distress, fear and fatigue were completely absent. There was even no death for those who did not want it."

Here is Srila Prabhupada's most amazing purport:

"All these facilities existed because of Lord Ramacandra's presence as the King of the entire world. A similar situation could be introduced immediately, even in this age called Kali, the worst of all ages. It is said, kali-kale nama-rupe krsna-avatara: Krishna descends in this Kali-yuga in the form of His holy name—Hare Krishna, Hare Rama. If we chant offenselessly, Rama and Krishna are still present in this age. The kingdom of Rama was immensely popular and beneficial, and the spreading of this Hare Krishna movement can immediately introduce a similar situation, even in this Kali-yuga."

This is truly amazing how simply by offenseless chanting of the names of God we can immediately make the world a paradise. Here is a lecture on this verse that I gave on Lord Rama's appearance day in Vrindavana. (Click on the link below.)

Question: How to Control Our Minds?

Dear Sir,

Thanks for giving us a good spiritual class and information about the Supreme Lord Sri Krishna. We are so happy hearing your class. But how can we control our mind? Also how we can stay motivated for self-realization? Please instruct us.

Regards
Gopal

Answer: Always Remember Krishna

Control your mind by always thinking about Krishna. And always stay motivated for self-realization by chanting at least 16 rounds daily of the Hare Krishna mantra on japa beads along the strict avoidance of illicit sex, meat eating, intoxication, and gambling.

The Most Auspicious Appearance Day of Lord Rama

Sri Vrindavana Dhama, India

Today is the most auspicious appearance day of Lord Rama. In the Srimad Bhagavatam (9.10.53) we read as follows:

"When Lord Ramacandra, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, was the King of this world, all bodily and mental suffering, disease, old age, bereavement, lamentation, distress, fear and fatigue were completely absent. There was even no death for those who did not want it."

Srila Prabhupada has written the following purport for this verse:

"All these facilities existed because of Lord Ramacandra's presence as the King of the entire world. A similar situation could be introduced immediately, even in this age called Kali, the worst of all ages. It is said, kali-kale nama-rupe krsna-avatara: Krishna descends in this Kali-yuga in the form of His holy name - Hare Krishna, Hare Rama. If we chant offenselessly, Rama and Krishna are still present in this age. The kingdom of Rama was immensely popular and beneficial, and the spreading of this Hare Krishna movement can immediately introduce a similar situation, even in this Kali-yuga."

So let us all now chant Hare Krishna without any offense. In this way happy times like the days when Lord Rama ruled this earth will again become manifested on this planet, and everyone will become peaceful and happy.

Question: Those Who Don't Accept Krishna's Form?

It seems in this world people have different temperaments. Some people want to see the Supreme as light. Some people want to see the Supreme as nature. For these people who cannot accept the personal form of Krishna, is there still a place for them in ISKCON?

Even when Krishna entered the wrestling arena, different people saw Him in different ways. If our movement is all expanding, how do we include such individuals?

Tom

Answer: They Will Become Convinced

The Mayavadis, who do not accept that Krishna has a form, are most welcome to read our books and attend our programs. By doing so in due course of time they will become convinced that Krishna is not formless.

They will learn how to greatly appreciate His transcendental three-fold bending form, and they will become His devotees.

Thought For The Day: What is the Difficulty?

Sri Vrindavana Dhama, India

There is no actual difficulty in becoming Krishna conscious. The only difficulty is that due to our less intelligence we manufacture difficulties. In this connection Srila Prabhupada explains as follows:

"So everyone can practice bhakti-yoga under the guidance of a bona fide spiritual master, one who knows the science of Krishna. Don't lose this opportunity of human life. Practice bhakti-yoga, be Krishna conscious, and make your life successful. Our mission is to teach this science. It is not a business -- 'Give me some money, and I will teach you.' The knowledge is free. We are simply encouraging everyone, 'Chant the Hare Krishna mantra.' What is the difficulty? Simply chant Hare Krishna and dance. Why go to some club to dance? The whole family can chant and dance at home. You will be happy. Then you will understand your constitutional position as servants of Krishna."

If we will simply place our faith in and apply these wonderful words of Srila Prabhupada, our lives will become unlimitedly sublime.

Question: Why Do the People Seem So Lost?

Dear Gurudeva,

All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Since coming to Krishna consciousness I see the material world in a different light. My question is: Why do the people seem so lost?

Your insignificant servant,

Scott

Answer: Because They Are Lost

The entire human population seems lost because factually they are lost. Because of their sinful activities most of them are going to take birth in the animal kingdom in their next lives. Therefore out of compassion for these hopeless fellows we must try to save them by bringing them to Krishna consciousness.

Thought For The Day: Conquering the Rascal Mind

Sri Vrindavana Dhama, India

The greatest enemy each of us has is our own mind. The good news is that once we conquer our mind it becomes our best friend. So how then to conquer the mind? We have to keep bringing it back to Krishna. No matter how many times it keeps running away from Krishna, we have to keep bringing it back to Krishna: His name, His fame, His qualities, His pastimes, His teachings, His entourage, His devotees, and His paraphernalia. In this way gradually the mind will become conquered by being habituated to always being Krishna conscious, and we will perpetually be in a state of unadulterated, ever-increasing transcendental bliss. The insider's secret is that the more we sincerely endeavor for this at every moment, the quicker it will come. So now let's get to work!

Question: How Do the Stars Shine?

According to Vedic understanding all celestial bodies besides the sun are absorbing light from sun and by themselves do not have the capacity to shine. Modern science is not in tune with the Vedas because it assumes that each celestial body emits its own light. So my question is that since the sun is the only light source how is it that the stars shine?

Suba Murali

Answer: Like Mirrors Reflecting the Sunlight

The stars are not the sun emitting their own light. They are simply acting like mirrors reflecting the light of the sun.

Question: Attributes of a Demoniac Person?

What are the attributes of a demoniac person?

Gopal Misra

Answer: They Do Not Know How to Act Properly

In the Bhagavad-gita (16.7) Krishna describes the demoniac as follows:

"Those who are demoniac do not know what is to be done and what is not to be done. Neither cleanliness nor proper behavior nor truth is found in them."

Thus practically everyone in this condemned age of Kali is a demon.

Thought For The Day: Expanding the Krishna Conscious Family

Helsinki, Finland

How will we make the whole world Krishna conscious? This is accomplished one person at time. So each time another sincere soul steps forward to seriously dedicate himself or herself to Guru and Krishna, it is a most glorious victory for our Krishna consciousness movement. Thus I was most happy to initiate a new disciple, Madan Gopal Das, on my recent stopover in Denmark. The whole world is suffering like anything due to its lack of Krishna consciousness. But when I see sincere souls like Madan Gopal Das stepping forward to give their lives to this movement it gives me great hope about the future of our planet.

Question: How to Develop a Taste for Pure Bhakti?

Hare Krishna Srila Gurudeva.

Please accept my humble obeisances.
All glories to Your Divine Grace and Srimati Gurumataji.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.
All glories to all wonderful Devotees.

Dear Srila Gurudeva, I read today in Cc Adi 4.129 that Srimati Radharani's love for Krishna is devoid of pride. Thereafter I also read that Her pleasure is ten million times more than what Krishna experiences. Kindly help me understand what is meant by the statement that Srimati Radharani's love for Krishna is devoid of pride.

How to develop a curiosity to taste what a pure devotee experiences? Easily we develop curiosity for mundane things, but this spiritual taste looks wondrous when we read about it. So how to maintain that greed for it?

How do the devotees maintain that bliss when leaving their body? If we consider ourselves insignificant, then how can one be sure that at the time of death, he/she is either going to have better opportunity in devotional service? If I leave my body, I will be more disturbed that I haven't controlled my senses yet, I have not done anything for the movement yet, etc.

Thank you.

Your insignificant servant
Lila Manjari devi dasi

Answer: Beg For It

Radharani is not puffed up thinking that She is great.

If you want to become greedy for pure devotional service, beg Krishna to bless you with this greed.

Upon leaving the body simply beg Krishna for pure devotional service. This is the mood of pure bliss. This is the meaning of the Hare Krishna mantra, begging for pure devotional service.

Thought For The Day: Back to Home, Back to Vrindavana

Copenhagen, Denmark

Today we are flying from Europe to India to return to Sri Vrindavana Dhama, the transcendental abode of Lord Sri Krishna here in this material world. It is here in this special place, which is non-different from the spiritual world, that Krishna chose to display His most intimate transcendental pastimes on this planet. Srila Prabhupada wonderfully describes Vrindavana in his purport to Srimad Bhagavatam 3.1.24 as follows:

"The tract of land comprising about one hundred square miles from modern Delhi to the Mathura district in Uttar Pradesh, including a portion of the Gurgaon district in Punjab (East India), is considered to be the topmost place of pilgrimage in all of India. This land is sacred because Lord Krishna traveled through it many times. From the very beginning of His appearance, He was at Mathura in the house of His maternal uncle Kamsa, and He was reared by His foster father Maharaja Nanda at Vrindavana. There are still many devotees of the Lord lingering there in ecstasy in search of Krishna and His childhood associates, the gopis. It is not that such devotees meet Krishna face to face in that tract of land, but a devotee's eagerly searching after Krishna is as good as his seeing Him personally. How this is so cannot be explained, but it is factually realized by those who are pure devotees of the Lord. Philosophically, one can understand that Lord Krishna and His remembrance are on the absolute plane and that the very idea of searching for Him at Vrindavana in pure God consciousness gives more pleasure to the devotee than seeing Him face to face. Such devotees of the Lord see Him face to face at every moment, as confirmed in the Brahma-samhita (5.38):

premanjana-cchurita-bhakti-vilocanena
santah sadaiva hrdayesu vilokayanti
yam syamasundaram acintya-guna-svarupam
govindam adi-purusam tam aham bhajami

'Those who are in ecstasy of love with the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Syamasundara [Krishna], see Him always in their hearts due to love and devotional service rendered to the Lord.'"

By taking advantage of the mercy of Lord Krishna in His most holy abode of Sri Vrindavana Dhama we can make rapid advancement along the pathway back to home, back to Godhead.

Question: The Voice Within is Paramatma?

Hare Krishna!

Please accept my humble obeisances.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

I have a question: How do I know whether the voice within is that of Paramatma, i.e Lord Krishna, or simply my mind which is telling me to do a particular thing? Please guide.

Your Servant,
Avinash G.

Answer: If In Accordance With Guru and Scripture

When the voice inside is in accordance with what you have learned from your spiritual master and from Srila Prabhupada’s books then you can know that it is Krishna as the Paramatma, the Supersoul, guiding you from within. Otherwise, it is simply your mental concoction and should be neglected.

Thought For The Day: Conquer Your Mind, Conquer the World

Copenhagen, Denmark

Guru Nanak said, "Conquer your mind, conquer the world." This can be understood nicely in two ways. One way is that when you conquer over your mind by keeping it always fully absorbed in Krishna consciousness 24 hours a day you naturally conquer over the cycle of birth and death and become fully qualified to go back home, back to Godhead, back to your original home in the spiritual world. Another meaning is that when you fully conquer your mind you become empowered to make the whole world Krishna conscious. Regarding these two meanings, there is no controversy over which of them is correct because both of them are simultaneously true. By saving yourself you automatically become qualified to save the world.

Question: What Do You Want Me To Do?

Dear Srila Gurudeva,

Please accept my humble obeisances.
All glories to you.

Srila Gurudeva, due to my stupidity, foolishness, and ignorance I am going through a very disturbed phase. May I know what do you want me to do?

Please forgive me for any offences committed knowingly or unknowingly.

Begging your mercy,
Your insignificant servant

Answer: Constantly Beg for Pure Devotional Service

Your duty is to beg Krishna to bless you with pure devotion to Him. This is the mood in which you should chant your 16 rounds of japa every day and also the mood you should be in 24 hours day while you engage in your standard daily activities.

Question: Should Guru Initiate Unqualified Person?

Should a guru knowingly initiate someone who is not going to be able to follow the regulative principles, especially the rule, no illicit sex.

Your student

Answer: Such Initiation Has No Meaning

Such an initiation is meaningless. It is not a real initiation. Such so-called disciples will have to take birth again and the guru will also take birth again to rescue them in their next birth. The guru goes to hell if he knowingly gives initiation to someone he knows will not be strictly following the regulative principles. Thought For The Day: Spreading Krishna Consciousness All Over the World

ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

In his purport to Srimad Bhagavatam, 1st Canto, Chapter 6, Text 26 Srila Prabhupada writes:

"The life of a sincere devotee of the Lord is thus explained in a nutshell by Narada Muni by his personal example. Such a devotee, after his initiation by the Lord or His bona fide representative, takes very seriously chanting of the glories of the Lord and traveling all over the world so that others may also hear the glories of the Lord. Such devotees have no desire for material gain. They are conducted by one single desire: to go back to Godhead. This awaits them in due course on quitting the material body. Because they have the highest aim of life, going back to Godhead, they are never envious of anyone, nor are they proud of being eligible to go back to Godhead. Their only business is to chant and remember the holy name, fame and pastimes of the Lord and, according to personal capacity, to distribute the message for others' welfare without motive of material gain."

Even though we do not consider ourselves to be such sincere devotees, still for our own purification and for the benefit of others we are accepting the duty of traveling to teach the science of Krishna in various places around the world.

Question: How to Make My Wife a Vegetarian?

Dear Prabhuji,

Namaskar. My obeisances to you.

I am a vegetarian for the last ten years ever since I heard about Krishna consciousness. But since my wife has interest in meat eating, sometimes I have to bring her meat. So how can I make her vegetarian?

Hare Krishna,
V.Mahendra

Answer: Stop Bringing Her Meat

One who transports meat is also sinful. Therefore you must no longer bring meat to her. In this way, she will be forced to be a vegetarian. But even vegetarianism is sinful because the plants also have life. The only way to become free of sin is to offer your vegetarian food to Lord Krishna before you eat. In this way the foods are transformed from matter into spirit. Such food is called “prasadam,” which means “the mercy of the Lord.” One who eats only prasadam quickly advances on the pathway back to home, back to Godhead. This is why Krishna’s devotees only eat prasadam and nothing else.

Thought For The Day: The Most Thrilling, Exciting, and Adventurous Lifestyle

ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

Why embrace a lifestyle which is is ultimately dismal, depressing, and bewildering when instead one can experience a life which is unlimitedly thrilling, exciting and adventurous? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out which kind of life would be better. Yet practically the entire human society has opted for the undesirable life. Why is this so? It is due to the false information being universally propagated by the grossly materialistic propaganda mongers. In other words, the entire world population is being grossly misled. Therefore those of us who have realized what is the actual truth now have the duty to amp up our broadcasting as much as possible our message of truth for the liberation of the entire human civilization from its entanglement in gross ignorance. Question: How to Realize Presence of Soul in the Body?

Tribute to Srila Prabhupada.

How the presence of the soul in the body can be realized, as it is covered by flesh, mind, ego, intelligence and so on, while at the same time soul is beyond all the material properties of the body? Since we are all taught that a surrendered pure-minded devotee of the Lord can realize his soul and the absolute presence of the Lord, how can this be achieved?

Sorry for the extended question and grammatical mistakes in the presentation of the question if any. Kindly wipe out the mode of ignorance.

Thought For The Day: Money, Money Sweeter Than Honey

ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

In this material world everyone is running after money because they think that money will buy them happiness. In this connection there is a saying: “Money, money, sweeter than honey.” But nothing could be further from the truth. The real fact is that the more one becomes money-minded, the more one becomes miserable. In this regard, kindly note the connection between the word "miser" and the word "miserable." In other words, the more you become a miser, the more you become miserable. There is also a popular saying: “Money cannot buy you happiness.” And this is certainly true. So what is the proper way to relate with money and utilize money? This is a most important thing to understand. If money is seen as the property of Krishna, which it most certainly is, and one always utilizes whatever money he has in a way that is pleasing to Krishna, he will always have whatever money he needs to live peacefully and happily pursuing a Krishna conscious lifestyle. On the other hand, if one spends money for material sense gratification, he will always be in anxiety about not having enough money, no matter how much money he may have. So now you decide what is best for you and do the needful.

Thought For The Day: How to Make Your Spiritual Life Flourish Like Anything

ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

The holy name of Krishna is more attractive than anything in this world. Thus all we have to do to achieve spiritual perfection is to develop a taste for His name by daily qualitative chanting. Then His holy name, which is non-different from Him, will carry us to the topmost perfection of existence, the full awakening of love of God within our hearts. Therefore we must always prioritize our chanting of qualitative Hare Krishna japa mala as the most important thing we do every day. If we neglect this, our spiritual life will definitely suffer. And if we focus on this, our spiritual life will flourish like anything.

Thought For The Day: Don't Approach Guru for Material Purposes

ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

Today, 6 March 2018, I have received two requests from persons in India who want me to help them get jobs in the USA. This is not the purpose for approaching Krishna or approaching the spiritual master. This is the defect of modern day so-called religion. People approach guru and Krishna for material purposes instead of for awakening love of God within their hearts. Instead of thinking how they can serve guru and Krishna for getting out of this material existence and going back home, back to Godhead, they want guru and Krishna to serve them by helping them get better facility for sense gratification here in this material world. This is compared to someone who is on a sinking ship who instead of thinking how to get into the lifeboat is thinking how to get a nicer cabin on the ship.

The purpose for approaching guru is how to get out of this material world, not for how to get a better facility for sense gratification here in this material world. The spiritual master can liberate you from all miseries by taking you back to home, back to Godhead. But instead you are foolishly approaching him how to get a better facility for suffering here in this material world.

A compassionate person does not like to see that anyone is suffering, dragging themselves through misery and thus dedicates himself as much as possible in doing good for others to help them become happy. If such a kindhearted person is fortunate enough to be blessed with the knowledge of what is the ultimate welfare of all living beings, namely to return to their original position in the kingdom of God, he dedicates himself fully to connecting all living beings with their actual identities as servants of God. What Could Be More Amazing than This?

ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

Srila Prabhupada writes in chapter 18 of his book, The Teachings of Lord Caitanya as follows:

"A bona fide spiritual master chants the holy names -- Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare -- and the transcendental sound vibration enters into the ear of the disciple, and if a disciple follows in the footsteps of his spiritual master and chants the holy name with similar respect, he actually comes to worship the transcendental name. When the transcendental name is worshiped by the devotee, the name Himself spreads His glories within the heart of the devotee. When the devotee is perfectly qualified in chanting the transcendental vibration of the holy name, he is quite fit to become a spiritual master and to deliver all the people of the world. The chanting of the holy name is so powerful that it gradually establishes its supremacy above everything in the world. The devotee who chants it becomes transcendentally situated in ecstasy and sometimes laughs, cries and dances in his ecstasy. Sometimes the unintelligent put hindrances in the path of chanting this maha-mantra, but one who is situated on the platform of love of Godhead continues to chant the holy name loudly for all concerned. As a result, everyone becomes initiated in the chanting of the holy names -- Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare. By chanting and hearing the holy names of Krishna, a person can remember the forms and qualities of Krishna."

Just see what is the result of receiving the holy names from the spiritual master and then chanting them with respect. What could more amazing than this?

Answers According to Vedic Wisdom

Question: Why Aim to Go Back to Godhead?

Hare Krishna Gurudeva,

Please accept my humble obeisances.

When everything originates from Lord Krishna, why is the material universe considered a perverted version? Everything around us originates from Lord, and He is always present in our heart. So why is this material world considered so bad? In Bhagavad-gita He says, "I am death." He is a part of everything, even birth and death. Still He is aloof from everything. So why can't we live peacefully here, realizing the fact that He is always in our heart and in everything around us? Since He exists in the material world also, why should we aim to go back to Godhead?

Please clear my doubts.
Thank you, Gurudeva.

Rashmi

Answer: Pure Devotee Only Aims to Serve Krishna

The material world is called a perverted reflection of the spiritual world because everything here is the opposite of the spiritual world. For example, the spiritual world is the realm of eternity, knowledge, and bliss while material world is the abode of temporality, ignorance, and misery.

For one who is Krishna conscious this material world is not bad. For the Krishna conscious devotee this material world is as good as the spiritual world because in either world he can fully absorb himself in the Lord’s service. It is only bad for those who are not Krishna conscious because here they suffer like anything in the cycle of repeated birth and death.

The pure devotee is fully satisfied to serve the Lord either here in the material world or in the spiritual world according to wherever Krishna wants him to engage in devotional service.

Krishna Consciousness is High Class Pleasure

ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

Why settle for low class pleasure when you can instead get high class pleasure? Low class pleasure is nectar in the beginning and poison in the end, while high class pleasure is nectar in the beginning, and goes on becoming more and more nectarean forever with no end. Thus the only people who go for low class pleasure are those who are ignorant of what is high class pleasure. Unfortunately, at the present moment 99.99% of human population is completely unaware of what is high class pleasure and are thus unnecessarily suffering like anything in the cycle of birth and death. Therefore out of compassion upon these poor souls we want to educate them in the science of the highest pleasure, Krishna consciousness.

Your insignificant servant,
Bhargavi

Answer: We Are Simultaneously One and Different

Because Krishna is eternal, full of knowledge and bliss and we are also eternal full of knowledge and bliss, we are described as being qualitatively one with Krishna. Although we living beings are all qualitatively one with Krishna, each of us has our own distinct personality and tendencies. Therefore within the oneness there is also difference.

Thought For The Day: We Don't Have to Suffer

ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

In our present day human society everybody is missing out on the unlimited bliss that they could be tasting at every minute. They have foolishly resigned themselves to a life of unavoidable suffering. They even have a saying: 'You have to take the good with the bad'. But an intelligent person does not want anything bad. He only wants good. This state of pure goodness is achieved when one comes to the dimension known as Krishna consciousness. This is the state of mind that everyone is actually hankering for in the innermost cores of their beings.

Question: How to Become One of Krishna's Gopi Girlfriends

Why doesn’t Krishna take me back to Goloka Vrindavana, and why is Goloka Vrindavana so far away? And what do I need to do to be one of Krishna's gopi girlfriends? And how can I purify my sinful actions and be Krishna conscious all the time? Is there a way? Please help me.

From,
Sheetal Baijal

Answer: Just Be Whatever Krishna Wants You to Be

We can go to Goloka Vrindavana immediately within our hearts, and it will be near (not far away), if we will purely adopt the mood of Goloka within our hearts, the mood of complete, total surrender to Lord Sri Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

Pure devotion is to fully and joyfully accept however Krishna wants us to serve Him, not that we insist on a being gopi, one of the cowherd girl associates of Lord Krishna. The demanding mood will keep us caught up in the cycle of birth and death here in this material world. So instead of demanding something from Krishna, the proper mood is to be totally surrendered to whatever Krishna demands of us. This mood of total surrender to Krishna will make us very dear to Krishna. And, if we fully and purely adopt this mood, He will accept us as among His intimate personal associates, and we can serve Him in this way for all of eternity.

To become purified of all past sins and to be empowered to be Krishna conscious all the time you need to take initiation from the bona fide spiritual master and be fully surrendered to always following his instructions.

Thought For The Day: May the Whole World Now Become Krishna Conscious

ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

May the whole world now become Krishna conscious. This is our dream. This is our desire because if the whole world becomes Krishna conscious, peace and prosperity will be there for everyone in full abundance. The present day status quo of chaos and confusion will be finished. It will simply be relegated to the history books and be no more. Everyone will become perfectly peaceful and satisfied. May that day come soon. May that day come soon. This is the burning desire in the hearts of Krishna's devotees. They cannot tolerate to see anyone in a suffering condition.

Request: I Want to Take Shelter

Hare Krishna.

Please accept my humble obeisances.

All glories to You and Srimati Gurumata.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

My name is Danilo, and I'm from Slovenia. The other day in the Video for the Day, you stressed on Krishna's words of becoming His devotee by being a devotee of His devotee. I have aspired to become Krishna Conscious for around 3 years, but still, it seems like I am running circles, going up and down like on a roller coaster. I would like to become a self-realized devotee, discover my intimate relationship with Krishna, and to serve you, Srila Prabhupada, Lord Caitanya and His devotees with devotion. In 2016 I enrolled in Your Ultimate Self Realization Course. I would like to ask for a shelter of your lotus feet and further guidance.

Your student,
Danilo

Reply: You Are Most Welcome to Do So

It is very auspicious that you have now realized the necessity in this human form of life of accepting the shelter of a spiritual master. If you will regularly read Srila Prabhupada’s books, associate with devotees whenever possible, chant at least 16 rounds of Hare Krishna japa mala daily, and strictly follow the four regulative principles (no illicit sex, no meat eating, no intoxication, and no gambling), you will make very rapid advancement on the ultimate self realization pathway of Krishna consciousness. Please do not hesitate to inquire from me as much as is required for you to become solidly fixed in Krishna consciousness.

Thought For The Day: Gaura Purnima--The Appearance Day of Lord Caitanya

ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

Srila Prabhupada writes as follows in his purport to Srimad Bhagavatam 7th Canto, Chapter 15, Text 46:

"vande sri-krsna-caitanya-
nityanandau sahoditau
gaudodaye puspavantau
citrau sandau tamo-nudau

'I offer my respectful obeisances unto Sri Krsna Caitanya and Lord Nityananda, who are like the sun and moon. They have arisen simultaneously on the horizon of Gauda to dissipate the darkness of ignorance and thus wonderfully bestow benediction upon all.' This material world is a dark well of ignorance. The fallen soul in this dark well must take shelter of the lotus feet of Gaura-Nitai, for thus he can easily emerge from material existence. Without Their strength, simply attempting to get out of the clutches of matter by speculative knowledge will be insufficient."

Therefore especially on this most auspicious day of Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu's appearance we should worship Him with great awe, reverence, and jubilation. In this way He will bless us with His causeless mercy and we will make tangible advancement on the pathway back home, back to Godhead.

Today is the Most Auspicious Appearance Day
of the Most Merciful Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu

Comment: An Enlightened Soul Enlightens the World

Dear Srila Gurudeva,

Please accept my humble obeisances.

All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Here is a quote I put on my Facebook pages:

"If there is light in the soul, There will be beauty in the person. If there is beauty in the person, There will be harmony in the house. If there is harmony in the house, There will be order in the nation. If there is order in the nation, There will be peace in the world." ~ Chinese proverb

Sincerely,

Vrajesvari Devi Dasi

Reply: So Now We Have to Do That

This quote is wonderful!!! So now we have to manifest that pure light in our hearts so that we can bring peace to the world. This reminds me of an amazing quote from Srila Prabhupada:

"A sincere student aurally receives the holy name from the spiritual master, and after being initiated he follows the regulative principles given by the spiritual master. When the holy name is properly served in this way, automatically the spiritual nature of the holy name spreads; in other words, the devotee becomes qualified in offenselessly chanting the holy name. When one is completely fit to chant the holy name in this way, he is eligible to make disciples all over the world, and he actually becomes jagad-guru. Then the entire world, under his influence, begins to chant the holy names of the Hare Krsna maha-mantra.” CC Adi 7.83 purport

So now we have to become such potent preachers who can influence the whole world to chant Hare Krishna! This is our most glorious duty given to us by Srila Prabhupada.
