Thought for the Day: Another Year Gone By

Melbourne, Australia

Another year has gone by. 2017 is almost finished. We are now entering into 2018. So how much did we accomplish for Krishna in 2017? How much did we advance in our Krishna consciousness? And how much where we successful in spreading the Krishna consciousness movement? These are the sort of questions we should be asking ourselves if we are at all eager to become Krishna conscious and make the world Krishna conscious. The point is that our main aspiration in life should be the advancement of Krishna consciousness both within and without. Other things such as job and career are also important. But they must always be relegated to our secondary position if we want to actually be successful in realizing the real purpose of human life, which is to become fully qualified for going back to home, back to Godhead.

Thought for the Day: How to Live in Vrindavana at Every Minute

Melbourne, Australia

We are all originally from the spiritual world. Thus no matter how much we may feel attached to our present place of residence here in this material world, this place is not our home. It is not really a very suitable place of residence for us, because here by the stringent laws of the material nature we are forced to get sick, to get old, and die repeatedly birth after birth after through 8,400,000 different species of life. But the good news is that we can get back to our original home in the spiritual world even at the present moment within our hearts by the process of bhakti yoga. This is described in detail in a lecture that I gave in Melbourne, Australia on the evening of 28 December 2017. To hear this lecture click on the link below. You'll be glad you did.

Question: How to Best Serve My Father?

Respected Guru Maharaja,

Please accept my humble obeisances.
All glories to your divine grace.

I beg to inquire from Your Divine Grace how I can do the best service to my father.

Begging your mercy,
Your insignificant servant,
Visvanatha das

Answer: Become Krishna's Pure Devotee

Because a son delivers his father from punishment in the hell called put, the son is called putra, which means the deliverer from hell. There is a sastric verse which clearly says, putro nayati naradeva yama-ksayat: "The son saves his father from the custody of Yamaraja."

Lord Nrsimhadeva assured Prahlada Maharaja that in the family of a pure devotee, not only is the devotee's father liberated but his forefathers for twenty-one generations are liberated. Thus when a Vaisnava takes birth in a family, by the grace of the Lord he purifies not only that family but also the families of his previous births.

Thus you should very seriously cultivate pure Krishna bhakti within your heart at every minute. By this method not only will you become delivered back to home, back to Godhead. You will also deliver your father and many generations of forefathers, even from your previous lifetimes, back to home, back to Godhead.

Thought for the Day: Taste Unlimited Bliss at Every Minute

Melbourne, Australia

You can taste unlimited bliss at every minute. All you have to do is tune into your eternal higher nature as a servant of the Supreme Person. The bona fide spiritual master guides you how to fully enter that pure state of divine consciousness, which can be called Krishna consciousness, Christ consciousness, Allah consciousness, Buddha consciousness, etc. Therefore our main interest in life should be in reviving our dormant state of Krishna consciousness so we can regain our original, pure state of unlimited bliss instead of being constantly whipped by the three-fold miseries of material existence.

Question: Original Spiritual Form?

Respected Srila Gurudeva,

Please accept our humble obeisances unto your and Gurumataji's lotus feet.

Srila Gurudeva, we learn that when we go back home we will get our original spiritual body. Also we read that all people in Vaikuntha planets have same bodily features as of Lord Vishnu. Does that mean they haven't got their original spiritual body yet or do they originally belong to Vaikuntha and not Vrindavana?

Please forgive our ignorance.

Your insignificant students,
Chenthil & Pratheeba

Answer: In Goloka or Vaikuntha

Every living being has an original form in the spiritual world either in Goloka Vrindavana or on one of the Vaikuntha planets.

Thought for the Day: Total Solution for Global Pollution

Melbourne, Australia

At the present moment our entire world is being devastated by ever-increasing pollution on both the subtle mental platform and the gross physical platform. Although it is not widely understood, it is a fact that the external pollution is 100% a product of the subtle pollution within. Therefore if we can clean up the pollution within, automatically the external pollution will be removed. Therefore we teach here in our ultimate self-realization system how to make one's inner self, his consciousness, completely pure. Thus, if our course can be widely followed all over the world, the entire world atmosphere will become transformed.

Question: Why Deluded Only at the Time of Death?

Srila Gurudeva,

Hare Krishna!

Please accept my pranamas!

Srila Prabhupada mentions that someone who is 'dhira' is not deluded by change of bodies. Why is it that we are deluded by the change of bodies only at the time of death, when we change our bodies every minute?

Your aspiring servant,
Bhargavi

Answer: We Are Always Deluded

We are deluded by false bodily designations at every minute. That’s why everyone is thinking, “I am male,” or “I am female.” The real fact is that we are not these bodies. They are simply garments that we are wearing right now. Our real identity is that we are spirit-soul.

Thought for the Day: Why Cheat Yourself?

Melbourne, Australia

Why cheat yourself out of unlimited bliss, suffering instead in this material existence, when unlimited bliss is your divine birthright? Wouldn't that be foolish? But unfortunately this is what 99.99% of the world's population is doing right now due to their complete total ignorance of what is the self. They are foolishly now misidentifying their selves, which are factually eternal, with their temporary material body, which is nothing more than a virtual garment being worn by the body. Therefore we want to awaken the entire human population bringing them to the spiritual platform so that they can dive at every minute into an ocean of unlimited bliss.

Answers According to Vedic Knowledge

Question: How to Apply "We Are Not the Body"?

Can you please explain me about how to apply the theory, ''we are soul and not the body" in our day-to-day life?

Deepa

Answer: Here's the Technique

From: Melbourne, Australia

My Dear Deepa,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

To practically situate yourself on the spiritual platform chant at least 16 rounds of the Hare Krishna mantra every day on japa mala beads; strictly avoid illicit sex, meat eating, intoxication, and gambling; and take shelter of the bona fide spiritual master by initiation and be obedient to his instructions. By doing these things you will be solidly situated on the spiritual platform and qualified to go back to home, back to Godhead upon leaving your present body at the time of death.

Thought for the Day: Nothing to Lose Except for Your Anxiety

Melbourne, Australia

The path of Krishna bhakti is indeed unlimitedly sublime. By taking to it with full seriousness and dedication you've got nothing to lose except for your anxiety. Thus it is only due to foolishness and ignorance that the entire world is not now practicing Krishna bhakti. Therefore we must now enlighten the entire human population to save them from their unnecessary misery.

Answers According to Vedic Knowledge

Question: Solution for Gender Dysphoria?

I have emailed you before, I am 26 years old male, but I identify myself as a woman. Since childhood I wanted to be a woman. This is not some mental problem. I don't know what to do.

Which asrama do I belong to? I can't get married because I don't want to start a relationship with a lie, and also I don't have any attraction for women. I can't join the brahmacari asrama, because I'll be trying to suppress my feelings and pretend to be something I'm not. I'm not very advanced in bhakti where I can avoid my mind's need. Please help me, Maharaja. I'm sick of being a fake in front of everyone. Nobody knows what I am or what I feel inside. Seeking your help.

Your servant

Answer: Spiritual Euphoria

In this material world in the cycle of birth and death, we have been bouncing back and forth both as humans and animals between male and female bodies since time immemorial. Whether as males or females we have always been dissatisfied because we actually do not belong to this material world. Being dissatisfied with my present existence in a male body I may think that I would be happy in a female body. Or being dissatisfied in a female body I may think that I would be happy in a male body. But this is all simply a dream. As long as we are in this material world, which is not our home, we will never be satisfied either in a male body or in a female body.

So the real solution for your misery, your gender dysphoria, is to realize that you are not that male body, that you are instead a pure spiritual being qualitatively one with the Supreme Lord. This will bring you out of your dysphoria into the supreme euphoria, the most wonderful state of ever-expanding pure transcendental bliss. So simply as a matter of duty you may present yourself externally as a male while always engaging yourself in Krishna's service and always realizing fully within your heart that you are not that male body, that you are instead a pure spiritual being qualitatively one with the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

Thought for the Day: Follow Christ or Krishna or Buddha?

Melbourne, Australia

Today is the day that Christians all over the world celebrate Christmas, the appearance day of Jesus Christ. Jesus is appreciated very much by devotees of Krishna because he is one of the greatest pure devotees of the Lord. Srila Prabhupada very much appreciates him and describes him as a powerful devotee who has done tremendous service of behalf of Krishna on the surface of the globe.

Personally I am very much indebted to Jesus Christ because it is his perfect example of full surrender unto the will of God that inspired me to become a devotee of Krishna.

Sometimes people are confused about which pathway of spiritual awakening to follow. In this connection Srila Prabhupada stated, "Either you follow Lord Jesus Christ or Lord Buddha or Krishna, it doesn't matter much. But do it perfectly. That is our request." The whole idea is not to be a cheater. One must humbly submit oneself as a servant of the Supreme Person.

Question: How to Choose My Guru?

Some months ago I joined with the devotees and realised that I need a guru. But now I am very confused from whom to take initiation. How not to make mistake as it is a very important step in my life. How do I choose my guru?

Your aspiring servant

Answer: Krishna From Within Will Guide You

I am very happy that you want to take spiritual life so seriously. There is no reason to be in anxiety about who to accept as your spiritual master. Just become serious to fully surrender to Krishna. This should be your focus. When you do this there will be no confusion at all because Krishna from within your heart will reveal to you who is your guru. If you are still not sure, then you should regularly pray every day to Krishna to reveal to you who should be your guru. Continue praying in this way every day until it becomes clear to you.

Thought for the Day: Ecstatic Chanting in Downtown Melbourne, Australia

Melbourne, Australia

Friday evening on 22 December 2017, we had the most ecstatic experience of participating in public chanting of Krishna's holy names in downtown Melbourne, Australia. The downtown was packed with thousands of people, and so many of them expressed their appreciation for our public chanting of the Hare Krishna mantra. Our chanting and dancing in downtown Melbourne was greatly beneficial for the many devotees who participated because it strengthened our own Krishna consciousness. And it was also greatly beneficial for everyone in downtown Melbourne who heard and saw our transcendental sankirtana party because it planted the seed of Krishna bhakti within their hearts. In this way the holy names of the Lord should always be chanted and heard every day in every town and village all over the world. If this can be done, it will mark the beginning of a new amazingly wonderful era of peace and prosperity for our entire global society. May that day come soon, real soon!

Answers According to Vedic Wisdom

Question: Why A Devotee Should Leave Home?

Respected teacher, please accept my humble obeisances.

I have some questions about old devotees. Why, when a devotee becomes old, he should leave his family to preach the Krishna conciousness outside?

We Chinese people know that we should respect the older generation and take care of them, because when a person is old he would be sick and be weak. How can the old devotees leave young men to preach outside alone? If he become sick, this can be danger for him. If a devotee does not have family or disciples, when he is old and sick, who will take care of him? Need he rely on other devotees? If there is no trusting devotees around him, what should he do to help himself?

Then, how about the old female devotees?

A fallen soul,
Lingling

Answer: Leaving Home is Not Required

In the Vedic culture when a man becomes old, he adopts the order of sannyasa in which he completely renounces material life. He leaves home and totally dedicates his life for spreading the Krishna consciousness movement all over the world. Such a renounced sannyasi is lovingly cared for by his disciples or by the members of the Vedic society. Therefore he is not in any difficulty for his material necessities of life.

However, if one’s home life is Krishna conscious, it is not necessary to take sannyasa and leave home. He can remain at home with his wife. Together he and his wife fully absorb themselves in Krishna consciousness preparing themselves for going back to home, back to Godhead so that at the time of death when they quit their material bodies they will be immediately transferred to the spiritual sky.

In the Vedic culture female devotees do not take sannyasa. If their husband takes sannyasa, they are lovingly cared for by their grown-up sons.

Thought for the Day: Revolutionaries In Spite of Defects

Melbourne, Australia

Srila Prabhupada explains in his purport to Srimad Bhagavatam 4.18.5:

"A conditioned soul is hampered by four defects: he is sure to commit mistakes, he is sure to become illusioned, he has a tendency to cheat others, and his senses are imperfect. Consequently we have to take direction from liberated persons. This Krishna consciousness movement directly receives instructions from the Supreme Personality of Godhead via persons who are strictly following His instructions. Although a follower may not be a liberated person, if he follows the supreme, liberated Personality of Godhead, his actions are naturally liberated from the contamination of the material nature. Lord Caitanya therefore says: 'By My order you may become a spiritual master.' One can immediately become a spiritual master by having full faith in the transcendental words of the Supreme Personality of Godhead and by following His instructions."

From Srila Prabhupada's wonderful words of wisdom we can understand that in spite of our many defects, we can still dedicate fully our lives for making the world Krishna conscious.

Thought for the Day: Turning Hell into Heaven

Pretoria, South Africa

As I write this we are preparing to head out again on another intercontinental overnight flight. This time we are traveling from South Africa to Australia. The whole world is sleeping in the deep, dense, dark depths of delusion. But we have been given the knowledge by which the entire world can be delivered from this chaotic madness, if they will only listen to us and accept our formula. Therefore our duty, in service to the suffering humanity, is to somehow or other induce the entire world population to hear and follow our instructions for turning this hell into heaven.

Answers According to Vedic Wisdom

Question: Why Come Down to Chant?

Hare Krishna.

When we see clearly that the mind is higher than the senses, the intelligence even higher, and the spirit the highest, why do we come all the way down to chant in order to go back up to the spirit?

Is this done to burn out parabdha karma that keeps coming back, or is it because we are insecure on the subtle level of pure spirit?

If we learned to wait instead of going down to the mind, would there be such a positive energy that we would immediately be in bliss quite substantially, and light to see life unfold like the flowering of goodness?

Thanking you,
Yours in the dharma,
Prema.

Answer: Chanting Is Beyond Matter.

Chanting is not coming down. The name of Krishna is Krishna Himself. So when we chant His name with love we are pulled onto the spiritual platform completely beyond this material existence.

This frees us from karma and makes us solid on the platform of pure spirit.

Although patience is a virtue, waiting alone with not liberate us. We must take powerful, positive action to purify our consciousness from the contamination of material association. This is what chanting Hare Krishna does.

The Dazzlingly Beautiful Radha and Krishna

Thought for the Day: World Peace Initiative

Pretoria, South Africa

Srila Prabhupada has blessed us with the perfect formula for world peace. Now all we have to do is follow his instructions dedicating our lives fully for bringing peace and harmony to today's most troubled disharmonious world. The formula is very easy and sublime. All we have to do is acknowledge that Lord Sri Krishna is the owner of everything, the enjoyer of everything, and the best friend of all living beings. If simply accept this and carry on with our lives in harmony with this, we will have the most inconceivably sublime lives that we could ever imagine.

And if we can educate the greatly distressed world population in this, we will experience the greatest era of peace and happiness that the world has ever known in thousands of years.

So let's do it. Let's bring in a new age of global peace and prosperity by making the whole world Krishna conscious.

The Amazingly Beautiful Krishna

Thought for the Day: Instant Nirvana

Uploaded from Pretoria, South Africa

Today's "Thought for the Day" connects you with the lecture I gave in Lenasia, South Africa on Sunday 17 December 2017. As soon as you seriously take up the path of Krishna bhakti you are already liberated. In 1975 in New York a reporter asked Srila Prabhupada, "Swami, is there a chance that all your followers can realize the highest truth?" Srila Prabhupada replied, "They have already done. They have already done."

So if you, my dear readers, will seriously embrace right now within your heart of hearts that "My one goal in life is to become a pure devotee of Krishna," you will immediately enter into a state of transcendental bliss that will never go away and will go on increasing for all of eternity.

So what are you waiting for? Do it night now and attain instant nirvana! Click on the link below to hear the lecture.

Question: Hearing from Atheists?

Hare Krishna, Srila Gurudeva,

Please accept my humble obeisances to you and Gurumataji!
All glories to Srila Prabhupada!

Hope you are having a wonderful preaching tour.

As you know, the material world is predominated by atheistic culture that only promotes sense gratification and body consciousness but is not interested in God consciousness. Should devotees listen to nondevotees who have power/authority but are not God conscious? I know some people who are severely deluded by maya and stubbornly refuse to be God conscious. They also try to push their deluded views onto others including myself and hinder my Krishna consciousness. How to deal with such people?

Thank you for guiding me in the divine path of Krishna consciousness.

Thought for the Day: Don't Be Insane

Out of the 8,400,000 species of life, the human form is the one chance we have to go back to our original home in the spiritual world. Therefore we should not foolishly waste our time in the maddened pursuit of material senses gratification, which will force us to take birth again here in this miserable material world. The only intelligent course of action is to fully surrender ourselves unto Lord Sri Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, under the expert guidance of the bona fide spiritual master. This and only this makes sense. Anything else is complete total insanity.

Question: Can Devotees Play Snooker?

Hare Krsna, Guru Maharaja.

I have just read this morning's “ Thought for the Day“ where you mention that we have nothing to lose and everything to gain by fully surrendering to Lord Krishna. I am so lost and ignorant so kindly explain if there are any steps involved and how do I go about surrendering to the Lord.

Your ever aspiring student,

Rajesh Ramsuchit
Durban, South Africa

Answer: Devotees Do Not Waste Time

Devotees do not waste their time playing frivolous sports because such sporting does nothing at all to advance their Krishna consciousness. Rather it is a diversion from their Krishna consciousness. Life is short. Therefore we must engage every minute of our daily 24 hours fully absorbed in Krishna’s service.

Such sporting also does nothing at all to deliver the fallen souls of this world from their entanglement in the cycle of birth and death. Therefore the devotees of Krishna fully engage themselves 24 hours a day in the ultimate sport of awakening pure of love of God within their own hearts while simultaneously pushing forward a spiritual revolution for the respiritualization of the entire global society to save these poor souls of the present day misdirected civilization from being dragged down to the animal kingdom in their next lives. Instead of wasting their time in frivolous sports the devotees work diligently to defeat the present day demoniac world culture and replace it with Krishna conscious culture.

Thought for the Day

Greatest Paradigm Shift in History

If all ISKCON devotees will sincerely follow ISKCON's Founder-Acarya His Divine Grace Srila Prabhupada's divine instructions for removing the dirt from their hearts and replacing it with pure love of God, ISKCON will become so strongly united and infused with pure Krishna bhakti that it will then become fully empowered to lead the entire world out of chaos and thus be able to successfully bring about the greatest paradigm shift that has ever happened in the history of the universe, the deliverance of the entire world from the chaos and misery of godlessness. Therefore, out of compassion upon the suffering, fallen souls of this age we should all become pure devotees of Lord Sri Krishna so that the whole world can become awakened in Krishna consciousness.

Question: Am I Realized?

Namaste, Gurudeva!

What is realization of Brahman, Paramatma or Bhagavan? I never fully understand when I hear people talking about this. Can these realizations be described in words, or do we lack words in order to explain these phenomena? How do I know if I've had a realization?

Richard Browne

Answer: When Realized You Will Know It

Brahman realization is realization of the oneness of everything. One experiences his identity with the underlying spiritual unity beyond the material variegatedness. This can only be achieved by undergoing great penances and austerities. But since the Brahman realized person does not realize the spiritual variegatedness his realization is imperfect and incomplete. Thus he cannot be fully satisfied and eventually falls down again into material variegatedness.

Paramatma realization is realization of the presence of Krishna’s expanded form, the four-armed Paramatma within the heart of every living being and within every atom. This is achieved only by yogis who perform great penances and austerities being totally cut off from material civilization.

Bhagavan realization is full realization of Lord Sri Krishna as the Supreme Personality of Godhead, the source of all existence. To attain Bhagavan realization one must fully surrender to Krishna under the merciful guidance of the bona fide spiritual master.

Bhagavan realization automatically includes Paramatma realization and Brahman realization. So this is the easiest type of self-realization. But because of false pride very few souls attain this highest perfection of consciousness.

You don't have to worry about knowing whether or not you have become self-realized. If you don't know, you are not realized. Self-realization means the covering clouds of delusion are gone and you now see things as they are.

Thought for the Day

Anxiety Not Due to External Circumstances

Here is powerful quote from Srila Prabhupada to help us understand that whatever anxiety we are experiencing in our present circumstances is not due to those circumstances. Rather it is simply due to our lack of Krishna consciousness.

Srila Prabhupada wrote from Bombay, India as follows to his disciple Madhukara Das on 4 January 1973:

"One mistake of judgment often made by the neophyte devotees is that any time there is some disturbance or some difficulty they are considering that the conditions or the external circumstances under which the difficulty took place are the cause of the difficulty itself. That is not the fact. In this material world there is always some difficulty, no matter in this situation or that situation. Therefore simply by changing my status of occupation or my status of life, that will not help anything. Because the real fact is that if there is any difficulty with others, that is my lack of Krishna consciousness, not theirs. Is this clear?"

There is a great lesson to be derived from this. In all circumstances, both the so-called pleasant and unpleasant, if we will simply always focus on increasing our Krishna consciousness, our hearts will be dancing in ecstasy at every minute.

Question: Marriage and Children Required?

Please accept my humble obeisances. All Glories to Srila Prabhupada.

I joined Krishna consciousness 2 months ago and your course today from a recommendation by a friend. I am very lucky to have such a good friend who sent me your course info and who has finally put me on the right path!

I have been reading Srila Prabhupada's books and listening to lectures of Srila Prabhupada. I find the philosophy perfect and would like to make this current life perfect and go back home. From my understanding, all it requires is taking initiation, following guru's instructions, and strive to be a perfect devotee of Lord Krishna as much as possible.

One thing I have learned from the books is not to get entangled. Sure, I am a college graduate, have a job to pay loans, but why am I forced by others to getting married and get further entangled? So my questions are:

- Is marriage required in Krishna consciousness?
- Is it required for one to have children?

Yes, you can have a Krishna conscious wife and children, but from the material side, there are so many headaches which I simply would like to avoid.

I humbly request your guidance.

Jay D.

Answer: Only Krishna Consciousness is Required

From: Vacoas, Mauritius

My Dear Jay,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Marriage is not required. And even if one is married, children are not required. We have only requirement in life. And that is to fully surrender to Lord Sri Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead under the expert guidance of the bona fide spiritual master.

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in an ecstatic mood.

Today's Thought

Nothing to Lose, Everything to Gain

You've got nothing to lose and everything to gain by fully surrendering to Krishna right now. So why not do it? Why hesitate? It sometimes said, "He who hesitates is lost." And it is also said, "If something is auspicious, do it immediately. And if something is not auspicious, postpone it." Surrendering to Krishna is the most auspicious thing we could ever do in millions and billions of lifetimes. Therefore the only intelligent thing to do is to fully surrender ourselves unto Lord Sri Krishna, the Supreme Personalty of Godhead right here and right now. There is absolutely no reason at all that we should hesitate or postpone this. But yet we do, again and again. This is our foolishness. It is time to give up our foolishness and become truly wise.

Question: Can Devotees Play Snooker?

Srila Gurudeva, can devotees play snooker?

Arie
Malaysia

Krishna is the Origin of Everything

Everything that exists is the energy of Krishna because everything is emanating from Him. Even Krishna emanates from Himself because He is the absolute origin of everything including Himself. Therefore nothing exists except that what is emanating from Krishna, and those who perfect their relationship with Krishna have a perfect relationship with everything and everyone all over the universe. What is the reason behind the successive reduction in lifespan from Satya Yuga to Kali Yuga?. What has caused the gradual reduction in life span over the span of the yugas. Please enlighten me on this.

Your servant,

Answer: Ever-increasing Sinfulness

It is due to ever-increasing sinfulness. In other words, the more one becomes sinful, he suffers more sinful reactions such as a shorter life span, disease, distress, etc.

Answers According to Vedic Knowledge

Question: How to Associate with Devotees?

Hare Krishna! We generally hear about the importance of association of devotees. In fact in your yesterday's 'Thought for the Day' this is what you have quoted the Lord as saying “Those who are My direct devotees are actually not My devotees, but those who are the devotees of My servant are factually My devotees." I feel confused on this aspect. Does this mean spiritual master, acaryas or everyone?

If we see now in ISKCON there are so many people/devotees and everyone has their nature and I may not want to serve or associate with each and everyone and this is my special case which I want to put forth. There is also a kind of fanaticism of 'My Guru / Your Guru'. Also 'My Zone and Your Zone', so many things and this does not make me comfortable to associate with each and everyone.

If we look at the great saints even in our parampara, we see that they had very closed limited association. Even if we take His Divine Grace Srila Prabhupada, how much association did he have during his grihasta life? Of course maybe later he had. The same applied to the predecessors. They did not have a wholesale association that we see today in ISKCON. It's bewildering and confusing when everyone speaks about association and association.

I feel at time fearful maybe I didn't associate with this devotee properly or I did not speak to this devotee properly. This is troubling me too much. Yes, I have my dealings with my Guru Maharaja and some other devotees too. But I am a very introvert person. I am trying to do my sadhana properly. I hope you got my point. Kindly throw some light.

Your servant from Vrindavana

Answer: According to Their Level of Awakening

We associate with devotees according to their level of spiritual awakening. For example we read in the purport to Srimad Bhagavatam 3.29.8 as follows:

"One who approaches the Supreme Lord to render devotional service, but who is proud of his personality, envious of others or vengeful, is in the mode of anger. He thinks that he is the best devotee. Devotional service executed in this way is not pure; it is mixed and is of the lowest grade, tamasah. Srila Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura advises that a Vaisnava who is not of good character should be avoided. A Vaisnava is one who has taken the Supreme Personality of Godhead as the ultimate goal of life, but if one is not pure and still has motives, then he is not a Vaisnava of the first order of good character. One may offer his respects to such a Vaisnava because he has accepted the Supreme Lord as the ultimate goal of life, but one should not keep company with a Vaisnava who is in the mode of ignorance."

Those devotees who are sincerely trying to become free from their anarthas, the material contamination in their hearts, should be associated with. But those devotees are not sincerely trying to purify themselves should be respected from a distance only. We should not mix intimately with such materialistic devotees.

Narottama Das Thakura sings that he always hankers for the association of Ramacandra Chakravarti. This is sweet mood of association amongst devotees who are fixed in Krishna consciousness or sincerely trying to become fixed in Krishna consciousness. This is the standard of association that we should try to have.

By writing to me and opening your heart you are associating with devotees. So you should simply find those devotees with whom you can associate and open your heart in ways that will help you to achieve the perfection of pure love of God.

Love Krishna's Devotees

Sometimes neophyte devotees think that one should not love devotees, that one should only love Krishna. But this is not what Krishna says. Krishna clearly describes to Arjuna as follows as quoted in the Adi Purana:

ye me bhakta-janah partha
na me bhaktas ca te janah
mad-bhaktanam ca ye bhaktas
te me bhakta-tama matah

“Those who are My direct devotees are actually not My devotees, but those who are the devotees of My servant are factually My devotees."

This verse is so important that it was quoted by Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu in His conversation with Ramananda Raya. Krishna is telling us that unless we have love and devotion for His devotees we have no love and devotion for Him. Therefore anyone who wants to awaken in their heart pure love for Lord Sri Krishna must necessarily master the art of purely loving Krishna's devotees. For without loving Krishna's devotees there is no question of loving Krishna. This is simply impossible.

I want to help other people by spreading the divine teachings of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, and I also want to become fully surrendered soul in helping you to deliver whole world from the clutches of material energy. At the same time I feel not qualified to become a pure devotee because I'm to much holding to my material attachments, and I simply can't give up them. I don't know what to do. I'm of this material world! It's too much nonsense things happening now in this world.

Please, Srila Gurudeva, make me your fully surrendered servant. Can you see what's stopping me from becoming a pure devotee? How I can give up all anarthas from my heart that I am attached to, and dive deeply into the ocean of Lord Caitanya's movement? What should I do to help people, and make a spiritual revolution here in Kaunas, Lithuania, or anywhere else?

Please kindly guide me.

Answer: Regularly Beg For It

All of us are afflicted by material desires. This is why we have taken material bodies. Just as it takes time to recover from any disease, it also takes time to recover from our material disease. The key is that we have to genuinely desire to become pure and regularly beg for that purity by sincerely chanting t least sixteen rounds every day of the Hare Krishna mantra on japa mala beads. You can also regularly beg Krishna in your own language, “My dear Lord Krishna, please make me Your pure devotee.” By regularly praying this way throughout the day, Krishna will bless you with spiritual strength to overcome your material desires. The key is that you just have to keep begging Him like this as much possible, and at the same time do a first class job of all your services.

Question: Engage Talent in Krishna's Service

Hare Krishna Gurudeva,

I offer my humble obeisances.

In today's Thought for the Day (7 December 2017) you have mentioned about utilizing your talent for Krishna consciousness. I have been thinking for a while now, how I could use my skills of project management and a business systems analyst, for Krishna consciousness. I work in the IT section of a logistic company and my projects are related to client implementations or enhancements. How does one make this mundane material work Krishna conscious? I don't understand, Gurudeva. My work is not related to Krishna consciousness at all.

Hare Krishna.

Preeti

Answer: Result of Work Offered to Krishna

By spending all of your earnings in a Krishna conscious way you will be engaging your talent in Krishna’ service. In other words spend your earnings to create a temple atmosphere in your home and also to give financial support to the Krishna consciousness movement. In this way when you go to work you will be going to work for Krishna.

Today's Thought:

Utilize Your Talent for Krishna

Srila Prabhupada very nicely explains that perfection is to utilize one's talent in the service of Krishna:

"Krsna consciousness is so nice, if you apply it in any field of activities you will see it is perfect. Either you apply it in industry or in politics or in sociology or in philosophy or in science. Therefore Bhagavata says that whatever capacity you may have, either you are a scientist or a lawyer or an engineer or a rich man, a capitalist, whatever you may be. Your duty is to utilize your talent for Krsna consciousness. That's all. That is perfection."--From a lecture on Bhagavad-gita 4.19-25 -- given in Los Angeles on January 9, 1969.

Therefore instead of denying our talents we use them in Krishna's service.

The Disappearance Day of Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati

Today is the disappearance day His Divine Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Goswami Maharaja. Srila Prabhupada told us many things about his beloved Guru Maharaja. Here are two pastimes that he described in Los Angeles on December 9, 1968:

"When he was a child two, three years old, he ate one mango fruit which was kept for offering to the Deity. So his father mildly rebuked him, 'Oh, you have done a very wrong thing. It was meant for Deity, and you have taken it. You should not have done it.' The child was two or three years old. He took it so seriously that never after that he took mango. Whenever we offered him mango he said, 'No, I am offender. I cannot take mango.' He was thinking like that, you see. Never in his life he took a mango. He was thinking that 'I offended in my childhood by taking the mango of the Deity.' This is the characteristic of acarya. They teach by their life's action that one should be so much determined, that one should not be... A child took the mango, there was no offense. But he took that vow.

"Another instance, in my presence. At that time, we were also young men, and one of my Godbrothers, his name is Dr. Oul Bihari Kapoor... He's now retired in Vrindavana, last time I saw him. He was also young man, and his wife was also young. So we were sitting together, talking with Guru Maharaja, and the girl proposed, 'My dear master, I want to speak with you.' So Guru Maharaja said, 'Yes, you can talk whatever you like.' So she said, 'I want to talk with you secretly, not in the presence of everyone.' Guru Maharaja said, 'No. I cannot talk with you secretly. You can talk in the presence of my all other disciples.' So even that girl was just like his granddaughter by age calculation, he refused to talk with a young woman in a secret place. These are the instances."

-----------

We are eternally indebted to these great acaryas for delivering us from this material existence.

We are actually pure devotees of Krishna. But those of us who are in this material world have forgotten this, and, covered by the three modes of material nature, we are foolishly trying enjoy in that place where no genuine happiness exists. However by engaging ourselves in sadhana-bhakti (devotional service in practice), we can revive our original, natural consciousness of pure love of God. Thus it can be clearly understood that becoming Krishna consciousness is not artificially imposing something upon our minds. Rather it is the reawakening of our original natural consciousness.

From: ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

My Dear Visvanatha,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

We simply fully surrender to Guru and Krishna and joyfully accept wherever Krishna sends us when we leave our bodies, because our only motive and desire is to please Him.

I hope this meets you in the best of health
and in an ecstatic mood.

Your ever well-wisher,

On a Mission to Save the World

On the order of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu and His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, we are on a mission to save the world. It is very painful for us to see a world in which 156 million innocent animals are murdered every day so that people can satisfy their lusty desires to relish the taste of flesh and blood. And it is even more painful to see a world in which 66 thousand innocent babies are murdered every day with the sanction of our present day world's governments so that people can enjoy having sex without being bothered with having to raise and protect the children that they produce. The bottom line is that we are not living in a human society. We are living in animal society. Therefore our mission is to turn the animals into human beings.

We do not know whether or not we will be successful in carrying out this order that we have received to save the world. But whether we are successful or not in saving the world, it is our most sacred duty to try to do so. At least by our making this endeavor our lives will be perfect and anyone who follows us will also be perfect. And if by the special mercy of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu we are successful in our mission, it will be the greatest and most glorious paradigm shift that has ever transpired in the history of our universe. So let's try for it and see what happens. What could be a more ecstatic life than this?

Question: Do I Deserve to Be Here?

Srila Gurudeva,

Please accept my humble pranamas!

If I am put into this material world due to my mistake at the feet of the Lord, am I not deservingly placed here? How can I ask for getting out of this place, back to home, when I deserve all the punishment?

Seeking Your guidance,
Your aspiring servant,
Bhargavi

Answer: You Foolishly Wanted to Be Here

From: ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

My Dear Bhargavi,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Because you desired to try to enjoy independently from Krishna, as your loving father He reciprocated with your desire by allowing you to come to this material world.

Krishna does not punish you. You are punishing yourself by holding onto your stupid material attachments. As your loving father He is ready to welcome you to back to your original home in the spiritual world as soon as you are ready to stop being such a stupid idiot by trying to enjoy independently from Him.

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in an ecstatic mood.

Your ever well-wisher,

Sankarshan Das Adhikari

Hare Krishna, Srila Gurudeva,

My obeisances to you.

Can I offer the results of an Ekadasi fast to someone?

If yes, how and when?

Your insignificant servant,

Bhakta Sunil

Answer: Offer Them Krishna

No. Offer them Krishna instead by making them Krishna conscious.
